I saw something like that on a Pete with airbags. Pissed me off too since I couldn't get it hooked with the truck I had and had to go back for the big KW.

I haven't read the whole thread yet still working through it but man there are some stupid comments i just post
    before i finish the rest

Im sorry i was taught and always told you go down the hill one gear lower then you went up so you never run the risk of "picking" the wrong gear, that little tibbit of info hasn't failed me yet, either way you shouldn't be more then just starting down the hill and know if your jake will hold you and gear choice is right and still have plenty of time to fix the problem before you get to how'd you put it "butt pucker factor 10", but then again you pro auto guys wouldnt want to waste any of that immense brain power thinking about the situation an fixing it before it goes to hell, gotta save it to turn on your phone put the truck in gear grab the wheel foot on the fuel let the truck worry about the rest seriously wtf.

I have driven both freightlliner and volvo auto's from 2006 - 2012 yes they have made improvements but i wouldnt own one and my company wont make drive one cause they know i hate them. The day that sealed the deal on my hate i had a new volvo ishift with there anti roll and stability controls on it. I had just picked up a 46k ibs load and came to a stop sign that was on a little hill where i had to turn left onto a 2 lane main road i hit the fuel an started going and for some reason the volvo thought it was a good idea to rev to 2100 so just as i started to turn left it grabbed its gears shaking the truck making the stability controls kick in turning on the jake shaking the truck more then cutting the fuel leaving me stranded in the middle of the road for 20sec tell it was happy and i said never again will i let the truck do the thinking for me.

    Dave 1960 Thanks this.

    This statement says it all:
    About the incident you described:
To put it in simple words, you floored it.
The Volvo did as you asked.
With an I-shift ,if you floor it,it will go to the highest possible revs before shifting.
And please don't find excuses,be a man and admit you did it that way.

Don't blame the truck for trying to do what you asked off it.

I can understand that you don't like an autoshift.
But if you abuse a truck and then say it is a bad truck.......................sorry but that doesn't cut it with me.

Have to agree with 105! An ishift is a great gearbox, anyone that can't make it work of makes a mess of it then shouldnt drive a truck in the first place, anybody else that can drive and tried the ishift I'm pretty sure won't complain! Def 90% of drivers on this forum that tried them liked them!!!!!

On that day yes i did mash the fuel to get going because as i said was heavy and stopped on a hill turning onto a busy main road its not the place to be babying a truck. Since that day i'v driven a few more of them i know how to handle them with fuel and backing up but i still don't trust them you never truly know when its going to up or down shift and it's a feeling i don't like with 46k behind me.

I didnt hate them before i tried them i gave them a fair try and there not for me, they do have there place for instance we have a couple drivers one hurt his sholder and the other hurt his clutch leg doctor told them its auto or lay off your choice so they got auto's one guy loves his and has had one for a couple years now and the other guy hates it wants a stick back but cant.

You need to keep in mind the ishift works completely differently to the US versions primarily because it's working on a syncro box but also because the engine and gearbox share the same software and it's been 20 years in development , it's the best system out there at the minute and honestly it works very well! A syncro means it can't miss a gear also on this side we use retarders which pull from the back of the gearbox so the truck won't pick up speed if you need to clutch or anything happens like missing a gear

Hey Scania Man, this new detroit auto coming to North America is going to be a 12 speed in an aluminum case. Is there anything Mercedes makes that sounds similar to this set up?
I have a feeling Mercedes is being rebranded as Detroit Auto Tranny.
