My 9 speed mack devours the hell out of fuel. Owner wants the truck shifted at 1500. Problem is, you shift at 1500 on a nine speed, you end up at under 1000 and it won't pull. You have to wrap it over 1700 or more to make the next gear.
A 5 speed mack wouldn't do over 50mph, would it? I remember those old 9 speed white's my dad used to drive. 55 was it and good luck getting there.
A note to the anti-auto crowd

I can't control an auto. In a manual I drop one or two gears going downhill and I never touch the brakes.

Your not a Truck Driver, if you drive an AUTOMATIC, your a Recreational Vehicle Driver.

Besides, I like playing with nice long thick and hard sticks ^.^American-Trucker Thanks this. -
Drove and autsohift, 10 speed with first 2 split. LOVED IT! Got in almost 1 million miles on it and never had a problem. But recently it was crushed 6k away from being paid by a steel plate. My current is 13 speed with manual, but it has a stiff clutch. Recently being a flatbedder I should have it loosened up. Plus with an autoshift I didn't have to worry about my 22 ton foot.
