Well....Now Cummins is saying it's nothing to do with the EGR System....
The DPF is full....And the catalytic element in the DPF has to be replaced....

Now...I don't get that at all...That DPF only has about 80K on it....We replaced the original one this past April...... They're supposed to last at least 500K miles.....

Two stubborn issues plague the Inland Empire (actually most inland areas and far northern counties of California). One we discuss loudly and often: air quality. The other is treated with silence: poverty. Our choice seems misplaced since the air has become much cleaner while poverty has soared.

Facts tell the story. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) reports that excessive ozone in the worst Inland location (Rubidoux) has declined from 172 days in 1989 to 52 in 2011, down 70 percent. CARBs own Chairperson, Mary Nichols claims that vehicle emissions have been cut by 99 percent.

This is a wonderful trend that no one wants reversed. Yet in that exact period, census figures show the poor (family of four: $23,160) have skyrocketed from 306,400 to 774,900, up 153 percent. Worse, poverty now affects one in four children (24.5 percent). It is 21.1 percent in Riverside, our largest city.

What drives our intense focus on clean air and silence on poverty? One answer could be that those with access to power see clean air as a universal good and have even convinced the poor that it is more important than a job yet wonder if poverty isnt the fault of the poor. That harsh view collapses in studying local employment. In July, we had 195,400 residents willing, able and looking for work. Our 11 percent unemployment rate ranked last among the 49 major U.S. metropolitan areas, below bankrupt Detroit (10.4 percent). In the first half of 2013 versus 2012, we created just 18,583 jobs. Of those, 5,100 or 27.4 percent were in the oft-maligned logistics or transportation sector.

Why then do we see such enormous efforts to stop our strongest provider of jobs? It could be because the poor who need the work have largely remained invisible to those who hold power.
Here, the contrasts are stark. For the Inland area in 2011, the Census Bureau found 22.5 percent of Hispanics lived in poverty, with 17.8 percent unemployed.

By contrast, roughly half that share, or 11.7 percent, of whites were poor with 13 percent unemployed. Among African-Americans, 24.7 percent lived in poverty with 21.2 percent unemployed. In any case, it certainly has not been the poor or the unemployed rallying to stop new employers.

Contrasted with our areas priorities is public health research sponsored by the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation that ranks every U.S. county. It found that 40 percent of a communitys health difficulties flow from socioeconomic conditions like unemployment, low education and poverty. It states that 10 percent or less actually comes from all environmental aspects.

The Powerful vs. The Powerless
Locally, these facts underscore the interests of the powerful in contrast to the poor and the powerless. One demands ever-cleaner air and sees our most dynamic job producer as the enemy. This side argues for high-end economic strategies aimed at creating jobs for which only the educated are qualified. This is a fact, just look at most green technology job creation, which is largely subsidized by government taxes these businesses are either in wealthy coastal areas or not even in this state for many reasons and especially the one discussed here.

The poor and powerless simply want and need well-paying jobs without serious educational barriers, since 47.4 percent of local adults have completed high school or less schooling. It is a fact that 71,900 permanent jobs created by logistics from 1990-2012 have been the major way this need has been met (median pay: $43,583). Interestingly, the air has become much cleaner as this has occurred.

The Big Split Politics vs. Objective Solution
There is a big split in our society caused by those taking political positions rather than seeking objective solutions.

For example, San Bernardino Countys visioning process, led by a public health researcher, recently asked hundreds of local folks their views of the major community need. Almost unanimously, the answer was jobs. In contrast, elites like UCRs Center for Sustainable Growth, AQMD staff members and NIMBYs from Orangecrest to Moreno Valley have argued to stop the expansion of logistics while remaining silent about how to replace it as a force for upwardly mobile job creation.

We thus find ourselves in the midst of the worst economic crisis in modern times. Poverty is soaring. Unemployment remains at historic highs. Yet, those with the greatest power in our society choose to focus on slowing job growth to accelerate the purity of our air, despite its vast improvement and very expensive engine technologies that guarantee improvements will continue well into the future.

Put bluntly, it does our region (and those similarly situated) little good if we create a totally pristine environment but let people increasingly die of the diseases and behaviors fostered by poverty in most cases caused directly by those same public health policies.

Good link, WCP. Sadly though, as long as the environmentalism remains a de facto fundamentalist religion, and the fervor that goes with that, those people couldn't care less about jobs. They see the human race as a blemish upon nature, and no cost is too high to eliminate the stains of humanity from nature.

Well, I don't know about 500,000 my Cascadias are all coming due at the 300,000 mile mark, and these trucks are NEVER idled.

I heard Florida was hard to get out of, my dispatcher had me a load as soon as I was empty out of u.s. steel I think it was in jacksonville, or close enough to it. Was a load of slinkies though
