The way I read it is you can have 100 trucks, 2 of them licenced in Cali, one of those two must have dpf. ie 2014 1/2 of your fleet has to be compliant.2015 2/3 of your fleet has to be compliant. This rule only applies if you have 3 or less units licensed in Ca.

You can upgrade ANY truck with an electronic ecm, by retrofitting a DPF.
-
What's the point of having a truck with a new engine but the rest of the drive-line with 2 million on it?
That's what I was up against with my old Pete....CARB told me I could drop in a new engine....But by the time we penciled in the other costs for the other upgrades....Buying new, made better sense than trying make CARB happy.... -
Btw...You don't need an ECM for a DPF to work....DPF's are not new....They have been used in Europe for decades.....
CARB wants the DPF to be paired or rather monitored by the ECM......
When this CARB reg thing started gaining steam in '05.....I attended a workshop where CARB rep was discussing their plans.....
One of them was that instead of "De-Rating" an engine when the EGR fails or the DPF cannot regen...Nichols originally wanted the trucks just to "Shut-Down".....
Good thing Nichols didn't get her way on that one...... -
Smog Information
Currently, smog inspections are required for all vehicles except diesel powered vehicles 1997 year model and older or with a Gross Vehicle Weight (GVWR) of more than 14,000 lbs, electric, natural gas powered vehicles over 14,000 lbs, hybrids, motorcycles, trailers, or gasoline powered vehicles 1975 and older. -

Well, the word is out. Presently CARB has an amendment to their goofy stuff on the table that most of those who really track this stuff feel that it will be adopted. It is that any truck that is pre-'07 emissions will be allowed limited exemption if it does not go over 5000 miles inside California in one calendar year. No retrofit requirement.

Good article, cowpie1!
Here's an excerpt about the proposed 5,000 miles annually:

There's also a proposed new six-month extension:
