I have a sneaking suspicion that it could very well be money wasted. But that would never happen with a government project now would it, I mean the government has learned their lesson and they wouldn't be building any more bridges to nowhere now would they... I mean really the governments motto is why have one when you can have two for three times as much.

The way the government thinks is that they will pass this mandate and everyone will just go buy a carb compliant truck to get by, there are a lot of us however who are simply going to say screw california we will run elsewhere.

Who knows how it is going to play out, but I suspect that in the end California is going to take a big hit.

That's not all gov't...That's steamship lines investing in the future.....

Maersk wouldn't have built their Navy Way Terminal just to waste money.....

Nothing but time will tell, but I suspect it is going to be a bigger issue than anyone realizes because there is a huge disconnect there between the management and the folks driving the trucks.

I think management knows what is going happen....

Fewer trucks on the road mean a greater Load to Truck ratio......
Rates will increase for a while.....

I have been reading the California Transportation News magazine.....And they have several articles regarding the consequences of CARB 2014.....

Hmmm....It's going to have greater impact than I thought.....So much so....I just might stop running freight and go back to tugging a Low-side.....

It would be nice to make $100+/h and get to sleep in my own bed at night again.....

When talking containerships, one should remember that they are switching to 18000TEU's now.
There's talk that those big ones will only do mayor ports on a coastline and then using feeder ships/railroad/trucks to distribute them.
Which ever is cheapest, most likely a combo off those will be used.

    $0 government funding.
Yes everyone is buying compliant trucks, "screw California" how does that happen when you live in California? Thanks fpr the help, when your state or the ones around it
roll out a bunch of ridiculous rules dont ask any other O/O's for help, we'll just say "dont run there"...
"California is going to take a big hit"? How is that? SWIFT, Knight, and other mega's have already rebuilt their fleets and are more than happy to have these new rules in place. The only people who are being hurt are O/O's who live on the west coast. I didnt bother to look but Im guessing you are a life long company driver. Ten years in the business and you dont give a poo about west coast based Owner Ops"s = Life long Company Driver.

It's tough being an O/O from Cali....
We're forced to compete with others who don't have to be compliant....
    And look at the rates....
Why is it that I can easily get loads running from L.A. Metro to Denver Metro for at least $2.50/m but....Coming back to L.A. from Denver....We're lucky to see $1.60/m at best?

I mean if a full load pays $2500 to go a 1000 miles up....Why not the same rate for a full load coming back?

Is 48K on the wagon "Lighter" from Denver or something....Compared to 48K on the wagon leaving Cali?

I bought my first truck less than a month after getting my CDL. Learned to drive at a small company from an old school driver who has been at it since the late 60's.

I took a few years off the road starting in 07, still be driving worked local for a while, then started a towing/repossession company, now I'm working on getting things together to get back on the road this time with my own authority.

When I started I was running Montana to Seattle/Portland, then I started running Montana to California. I have spent a ton of time trucking out of Cali because my dad is from there and I have a ton of family there still.

As far as the mega's go, Already been through that with them, they came up into Montana, Wyoming and Idaho and started hauling everything at a loss to drive all of us out, they gobbled up all the freight drove the rates down to where the best paying loads coming out of the area were .76 a mile. Then after a bunch of us lost our trucks or had to move out elsewhere, they would go in and double or triple the rates they were charging. I almost lost my truck and my house trying to keep my head above water.

So get off your high horse and don't lecture me about what I have and have not been through, I know exactly what is coming your way, that and when we were going through this I didn't see you all come running to help us. What did we do though, the toughest of us weathered that storm, figured out how to survive and life went on. Guess you are just going to have to do the same.

On that note if there is a class action suit against california to get this nonsense fixed, I will be more than happy to participate. We will see I could even wind up as a ring leader, but right now I have more important things to worry about like getting my paperwork straight and getting the right truck and trailer found and sticking within my budget so I don't have to borrow, or have to borrow as little money as possible to make this happen.

And I will tell you this much getting back into the business with this mindset, owning my company and equipment outright, I am going to be in the position I can tuff out a lot of things others can not, and because of it I will be in a prime position when things rebound, because if there is anything I have learned about this business is that it ebbs and flows and you have to be able to adapt to what is being thrown at you.

Which is also why I am looking at building a Glider next year, because it is a new body, I might be able to use it to "sneek" into cali. We will see on that, I am still researching it.
