1.You should not be touching the throttle until the gear is fully engaged and the truck is rolling. You do that in Light duty vehicles with Syncronized Transmissions because they don't have the torque at idle to avoid stalling.
2.To avoid rolling back you need to slowly let up the clutch with the brakes applied until you just barely start to feel the truck start to lift. Then you slowly let the brakes off while letting the truck up. You will need to do this very slowly on a steep grade if you have vehicles hugging your rear like they love to do.
If you fail to avoid a roll back starting on a steep grade with vehicles kissing your ICC bumper you will see just how big of a worry it is. -
Wait!so no fuel till my foot is off the clutch?
And I mean why bother working on stopping it from rolling when. I still gotta learn the basics -

I'd kill you...lol not really
Put it in fourth put your foot to the brake
Don't let off the brake
Pop the clutch
Wait for the truck to rock side to side.
Push clutch slightly back in
Hold it there.
Let off brake move it over to gas raise rpms say 300 while letting out the clutch .
Sloooooowwwwwwlllllyyyyy
But not too slow.
You are just letting off the clutch too fast = stall
Rolling back = you are pressing the clutch too far in. Let it rock. Press slightly in.
See if that helps.
Rocking the truck is a good safety check when someone's on your bumper at a light when first starting.
Hope this helps...prob not. Be easier if I could just show you here xD -
I really hope your running an 18 speed if your starting loaded on a uphill grade in 4th gear or do you just have a personal vendetta against your transmission?
Their is no need to apply throttle when starting until the gear is fully engaged. I've started on 6% grades with 79k gross without any vibrations or hesitations whatsoever..Lepton1 Thanks this. -
I thought you always start in fourth or fifth on a 10spd and pros on 6th?
My teacher said do 4th or 5th but she is less of a teacher than anything -
I ain't got all day
I'd drop it down to third on a big hill with over 35k in the box most likely.
Anything under that is fine. Fifth to seventh.
Go on about my day.
If you can't go from 4th that's your problem. -
I've never started in 4th or 5th.. Even when I'm bobtail. I was taught to just start in first, no matter the situation. I usually like to take care of the transmission, so the starting in 1st all the time, is just personal preference but I can't see starting out in more than second, at highest.
