Usually if you get a ticket for 14 or less over the state will not put points on your license. Anything 15 or more can be considered wreckless driving which is usually grounds for automatic termination at most trucking companies. Plus it's almost a guarantee that you won't find another job for a few years.
A question for those of you familiar with Grapevine

15 over is reckless driving in the state of California...
-
8 years spotless record, 1.5 in a CMV... SPOTLESS! Now I'm looking at loosing my means of income?? -
Plain fact, hire an attorney, and PRAY you an plead it down. That's the best I can offer. I'm sorry.

hunts2much Thanks this.

Will do. The cost of a lawyer or the ticket for that matter is meaningless to me. -
Yeah, some years back, the powers that be clamped down on CDL holders and came up with 5 violations that will hurt you dearly; 15 or more over, tailgating, unsafe lane change, No drivers license in possesion, and I can't remember the other one. And while dropping down the Grapevine doing 35 is a PITA empty, It's just one of the many reasons we love trucking, right?

It wouldn't matter if they lowered the speed down to 10 mph for trucks going down...someone will still drive down 60+
When I run it...I see trucks going slower and some going faster....
The slower ones won a previous award....The faster ones must have better brakes and better jakes..... -
#1 I got a ticket for 65 in a 55 at the top by Fraizer Park, $475.00, got because one of the FED EX drivers that can only seem to drive 50 in the 3rd lane was probably talking on the phone and practicing to be a container hauler, so I hamered it and passed him on the right, my bad, i did it and paid the ticket, as far as the hill goes, i run the speed limit no matter how much i weigh (empty to 78k) or less, every time I go over i can smell the hot dogs brakes on the way down, but they need to get to the bottom first I guess

I certainly wasn't "hot dogging" down the hill. I never touched my brakes even once down the hill til the officer got behind me and flipped his lights on. I used CC all the way down. I just didn't get down to 35 fast enough. By the time the officer was behind me I was doing 35. I would have been doing 35 at that point even if he wasn't behind me because the trucks in front of me were all slowing down to that speed.
The worst part of all of this is I AM guilty of speeding by the letter of the law. I can't argue that, but the penalty I've received is completely ridiculous for what actually occurred. When I crossed that 35mph sign I was 12mph over the limit. Like I said earlier though, another 100 yards or so I would have been MUCH closer to 35. So in a nutshell... I'm looking at a reckless driving citation for what amounts to speeding for about an 1/8th mile.
