This is becoming painfully obvious to me now. However lead foot is a little misleading... if anything I had a "feather" foot:biggrin_25525:

I hired a lawyer today. $400 to start. Lawyer said they have been involved with 1700 truck citations for that area. They have lost 290 of those cases and 230 are still pending. I'm told to expect a wait of 16 weeks to be done with this. Apparently the Lamont court house is a teency weency bit backed up...:biggrin_25513:

Good luck, you did the right thing with the lawyer.

IMHO the signage for that little stretch is buried and confusing, the limits are too low and the whole thing is a big revenue generator.

    hunts2much Thanks this.

Thats a stupid comment. You never have I suppose? I got a ticket for speeding in NV 75 in a 75 w/bnd I 80 112 mm. He gave me 1 log ticket, hadnt drawn the line from sleeper to driving, 1 for a piece of lumber on the trailer frame that was 10 ft long and wouldnt come out unless you tilted it for not being tied down. He couldnt explain the speeding.

Oooooooh....Sorry to ruffle your feathers there driver, But YOU got the ticket, Not me!
The signs tell you how they want you to do it....If you choose to do it your way, It's on YOU!

I've been doing this a while and it's been many years since I got a moving violation and the reason for that is, I read the signs and obey them.
If I passed a sign that said "TRUCKS SPEED LIMIT 35 MPH MAXIMUM" I'd slow down to that speed as soon as I saw it not when I got around to it! Not, "Well the other trucks were doing 45 so it ain't fair that he got me" It was your day to get got I suppose.

By your own admission you were speeding and you knew you were speeding and just hadn't slowed down yet...Good luck in court!
What's your defense strategy gonna be?

Honest your honor, I was thinkin' about slowin' down and I even took my foot off the accelerator and was movin' it towards the brake pedal when this guy just picked me out of the middle of a whole bunch'a guys that was doin' the same thing...It just ain't fair you honor....sir!

Now while I agree that the speed there is pretty slow for that little hill and that they,re probably watching it pretty hard these days to generate revenue, That does not negate the fact that the speed limit is well posted at 35 and that it is generally well known that the CHP in that area watches it like a hawk.

Another thing they used to do and may still do it is watch with binoculars from the S/B scale any truck hotdogging it down the hill and radio over to Barney Fife to pull 'em over.

approximately 50mph stated on the ticket?

This is what has me curious. A good lawyer could have fun with this or get reduced to 10mph over.

Absolutely correct. Have someone represent you and you can get it lowered if not dropped. The approximate is a joke as it says he wasn't sure how fast you were going. You are lucky he didn't give you a reckless driving ticket. That leaves the cop the option to arrest you. It has happened before.

Personally, I think the Grapevine is over rated. You gonna speed, you need a bird dog in them situations. Especially California. Not a cheap one either. The top of the line ones are invisable to bird dog detectors. Been using one safely for 12 years now. It has kept me speed ticketless. Now that I have a 65mph truck I hardly use it except for 55mph highways.

    Yes... word for word.

A dismissal would be wonderful but I'm not really counting on it. Getting the ticket reduced to anything less than 15mph over the limit is all I'm trying to achieve. Minimize the damage already done.
