Let me share my experience with CHP.....

You can run a rig on an open highway at 62 mph....You won't get pulled over....7 mph over is pretty hard to draw revenue because speedometers are not always accurate...Your's can can show 55 but you may be actually going 60.....or 50.......

Drive sensibly and you won't get pulled over......

On the grades with posted speed limits for trucks....drive the posted limit even when deadheading....you won't get pulled over.....

CHP will pull you over if you drive your rig like it was a Vette.....
CHP will pull you over if you weave and change lanes unsafely.....

In Cali on a highway with 3 or more lanes...stay on the two outside lanes unless posted.....

CHP has the most intensive CMV enforcement program of any state.....They enforce the BIT program, 30 day/90 Day/ annual inspections...
Most CHP CMV enforcement officers are well versed in the regs...unlike some other jurisdictions I have had the pleasure to run through....At least CHP CMV officers know that a spread axle is legal for 40K on the axles......I won't mention the two other states who claim that spreads are no different than tandems......If any of you have paid attention to my posts...you already know what jurisdictions are guilty of that ignorance....

My biggest gripe running in CA is not the CHP, nor the mindless 4-wheelers...The biggest problem I have are those Super-Trucker NAFTA types with their Duct-taped and tie-wired rigs fouling up the ribbon.....

Most of the time this is true.

How ever I posted 2 of my experiences where the cops were horses behinds for no reason what so ever. I was 100% in the right. They were 100% dead wrong. Some thing that I know cops on the job will never admit to. They like to forget they are human and make mistakes the same as every body else. Just because they are cops does not mean their excrement doesn't stink.

Most of the time, I get along fine with CHP. Hell, I get along fine with most county mounties and city kitties too... the only officer I ever had an issue with was one just outside of Goodland KS... and he made me want to avoid KS like the PLAGUE!

:biggrin_2556: I seen this alot there, but the chips can speed all they want , with no lights on, so are they safe too get pulled over and give a speeding ticket, i say yes, and the way the way they cut off traffic , again with no lights on , is unreal, i alsmost got me a trunklid off on as he came across 6 lanes of traffic and took the offramp, yup i be sitting in jail becuse it would be my fault , for not having my rig under control:biggrin_25513: , even tho i was poking along that day cause i knew it was gonna be long time too unload me at warehouse, i was doing the cooler in town runs, :biggrin_25514: Everett.

Thers a town just south of or sw of mantowac , wi, they dont like trucks in there little town, that was my first ticket in a small town, first tictket anywere, everything thing was fine , the reason i got a ticket was left steer was over the yellow line by 2 inches he said, i told him you want me want too whipe out your power pole , which is right on the curve in the middel of this town or whipe out the car coming the other way, as it was i almost rubbing against the pole as i was going real slow, but it was super close, but i didnt argu with him ,i just accept it and moved on, :biggrin_25513:

Only thing he asked for was license and registration. I OFFERED to show him my log book. You see, I'm on E-Logs... and it would have read 99.99% legal, even 7 days back. You see, I'm also in a governed truck (63mph) so there is no speeding through IA, NE, CO, UT, AZ for me. I've been driving for 1.5 years, all on e-logs and I've NEVER had a log violation from DOT or my safety department.

I also offered my medical card which much like my offer for the e-logs was answered with... "Don't bother". He took my license and registration back to his patrol car and stood outside the car writing me a ticket. He never even got in his car! Which meant he didn't get a chance to see I had a clean record. Probably wouldn't have done me any good but it couldn't have hurt my situation.

I just went back and checked how long I logged Line 4 for the time I was detained... From the moment I came to a complete stop to the moment I was rolling again... 14 minutes. I've been through low level paper work checks on the roadside before and even they take longer than 15 minutes. I guess he had more tickets to write that day.:biggrin_25510:

This is what I "thought" I was doing!

This is what I did not do!:biggrin_25513:

I'll never give CA or any other state for that matter the chance to take a penny from me again. I just hope I get that opportunity!
