I trucked for 2.5 years with a company that let me go. I ,also, had a planned vacation. How long do I have to wait to apply for another trucking job? I've heard or read six months. Is this true? Someone out there has been through this.

When are you going on vacation, and will your change in employment status change your vaction plans?

As an experienced driver, being away from trucking for more than 6-9 months begins to be a problem for many potential hiring carriers. I guess I don't understand your question or you have been fed some bad info. Or are you trying to game the unemployment system? If you can still drive (are hirable), and want to drive, don't waste any time getting rehired. You can take a few weeks off if you have the financial means to do so to get in a needed vacation, but get those apps done in the mean time.

Chele, you do not have to wait any amount of time. Start applying now. That six months you have heard about is about how long you can be away from trucking before your experience starts to get "old" to many companies. I had driven over 17yrs. Got a local non trucking job for a while. I decided the local gig wasnt working, and started looking to get back to trucking. It took me 4 months to get hired somewhere after only being out of a truck 6 months. Like STexan said...go on with the vacation. But start getting apps in now in the meantime.

Ok. So I don't have to wait. They said I had too many accidents. They were fender benders nothing major. Should I keep applying? I don't want to start over.
