Really quick. Its winter. Do you know what to do if you pick up a trailer and its wheels are locked up? Do you even know what to tap on under there and how to set the brake? I'm asking this because I just spent almost 15 minutes on the phone with a new driver. He had no clue what to do. I still do not know if he is running now or not. This kind of stuff makes me want to scream. Drivers today have no idea how to handle situations brought about by extreme cold.

many, had no one to show them?

can't blame them if they do not know.

it's like taken for granted all systems are a go, until they cannot.

many schools i gotta figure, don't teach that stuff.

i think too that many inexperienced driver trainers don;t know as well.

maybe this should be in training classes, or at the very least, on the road training.

then some that "might know", may not have a big hammer with them. or cannot borrow one or buy one, if they are not at the truck stop or some other location, with a automotive store nearby.

you can't scream, to the ones that may have never been taught.

scream at the lack of training.

same thing with those plastic air lines, that break when you even look at them in winter. not thier fault (the new drivers), how are they supposed to fix that, or be aware of that if no one told them?

what may be "common sense" to you, me and a few others, is taken for granted on your part, as we had to learn this way back when. which is how, why we know how to handle this.

So you want me to crawl around in that slush, get soaking cold wet, tap on that shoe, crawl in and out of truck until 3rd time have all the shoes freed up, now I am soaked, a half hour out of schedule so better get driving, roads sucking icy as heck, cars spinning out all over, hurry you got 6 hrs. to get to that drop that will be a hour late, uh?

Not to be mean about it but if all you pay for is 44 cents per mile I wouldn't expect any company driver to do anything but drive

All of us know that cold can cause problems. This is not a question about ice or slush. It a simple question to new drivers asking them do you know what to do. If your company will pay for the road call and your willing to sit for maybe 2 or 3 hours waiting great. However this is in my opinion something new drivers need to know how to do. I don't have time right now to search, but im hoping there is something up on youtube.

With the internet and wifi, if someone is stuck at a truck stop, just log onto youtube and put the subject matter,"unsticking frozen semi brakes" and you will probably find a few hundred videos you can watch showing different ways, look up safety first, have some good wheel chocks, make sure that rig is not moving any which way. Sitting under that thing with brakes released and you laying tapping away or with torch that thing will run you over. Think.
