dont have to be an old timer to know how to shift a set of sticks! A few years ago I bought a 84 kenworth with a 7x4 in it. My twin boys were 14 at the time and I showed them how to shift it and turned them loose. As soon as they got out of school every afternoon they were in it driving up and down the gravel road. They put over 300 mile on it in a short time. One of them got the shift linkage locked and I put them both under the truck and told them what to do to get it back into neutral. Now at age 22 one of the boys drives it part of the time and claims it to be his truck but my name is still the one on the title. :)

Driven a 5x4 and a 6x4, both in Kenworth's (one in an 900A, the other in a 900B). I'm sure I could get a Mack going though, was in the cab of a B75 with a 5x3x2 (triplex with a 2-spd box behind it) after we bought it up when we were seeing if the old motor would turn over (Iron-Lung Cummins). She coughed, sputtered, caught, and was screaming. The truck even had the old tapered frame...

I know enough about the Mack transmissions that I think that I could get one going down the road, but, that doesn't mean I'd turn down anyone letting me know the progression before I left.

And, I'm not a super-trucker, I just like the old stuff...

Never drove one in a Mack. Only drove a 359 with a 6x5. Always heard that most of the Macks were geared lower than most trucks back then. Never got to experience them first hand to see if it was true tho. Be safe out there drivers.
