On March 10th I was seen by the Dermatology dept of my local VA Hospital and they did a biopsy. On the 16th they called me and gave me the Pathology report of said growth. It was a Basel Cell Carcinoma and I had to return that afternoon and have that entire area opened up again so they could make sure they got it all. This growth was on the left side of the back of my neck. I bring this up because sunlight is a contributing factor in these growths development. This area on my neck was almost always exposed to the sun. I'm OK, but this was a wake-up call for me. In the past 3 years, I have had 5 growths removed and of that 5 only this last one came back cancerous. This growth on my neck has been there for over 25 years. Had I know it was cancer I would have got it removed years ago. Thankfully Basel Cell Carcinoma's are not known to spread.

Just a word. If you have these growths/bumps get them seen about.

Sorry to hear about your difficulties. I pray they got it all.

Folks, always apply a little sunblock to your neck and face and the back of your hands regardless of weather. It's part of my beauty regimine...that and plucking those little man-hairs out of my chin. :p

Yep. Been there a few times myself. Last one was 4 years ago on my left bicep. My father in law gets one removed every couple years or so.

That is why I’m a proponent in window tint being allowed on trucks. But that is another story.

I got the all-clear from the VA yesterday, they got it all. Now wear my hat when outdoors and keep a watch for more.

My mistake when outside is usually to put sunscreen on my arms but forget my neck and ears.

    Rideandrepair Thanks this.

I’ve had the same basel for over ten years now. The first time a specialist saw it, he was wondering why it was all on my left side. Then he asked “are you a trucker?”. You got it doc.
It’s not a big deal as long as you have it taken care of, it can spread over time, kind of like a flesh eating disease. But he said it might take thirty years.
If you catch it real early, I usually get a red blemish on the skin. Then he just hits it with liquid Nitrogen and it’s gone in a week or two.
