I figure it's when they hang up on you. I've been hung up on for a lot less than $4 a mile quotes. I really think some of these brokers who have never seen the inside of a cab, yet alone actually run a truck, should try to make a living off one from some of the direct rates they book freight on. I'm certain it would be a real eye opener. And then come on here telling how profitable it is and how easy it can be done.

Not that it matters but I have mentioned the fact that I have to cover deadhead, a percentage off the top, and the sure bet that any follow load if it pays a decent rate is a long shot. I've been told their customer only pays on loaded miles and none of that matters to them. Ok. That's cool. I get it. And I make no apologies for charging what I deem necessary to eek out a profit. Like I said deadhead and a cut off the top will cut into $4 pretty quick.

But hey that's how these things go. I signed up for it and am not complaining. long as someone is willing to pay a certain amount they can't come back crying later that it was absurd. Really they should see some of the rates others have paid, that they even offered to me and I accepted without haggle, much more than $4 a mile. And they come back sometimes offering more runs, similar rates. That's market rates and those are very good shippers/receivers. Of course the flip is true with regards to lower rates.

I didn't have any hang up on me last week but the truck didn't leave the house.

The rates are not absurd when you are getting the level of service that you are paying for. You can always go with the cheaper carrier and pray that they show up. lol

Doesn't it feel good when you are absolutely dying on a load and you finally find someone you know will get it done?

We still have a relationship with Covenant but no longer work the expedite group for them. All of our straight trucks are leased to Panther. Anything you see about Expedite at Covenant is team service.
