Just some advice about a repair shop/ dealer that just isn't doing a good job. Motor Trucks of Mount Vernon, WA. This is the second major issue I've had with them. First was a simple oil change with an test drive for a vibration. No oil replaced in engine was before the mechanic test drove it 30 miles. Cost me down time and them replacing the engine. This time the high side of the transmission starting making noise after being rebuilt at the same dealer 6 months ago. So I stopped at Kenworth Northwest ( yes they own Motor Trucks). They found a wrong gear and completely worn out syncros and it was shimmed wrong. I paid for all new gears, syncros, bearings etc. So I reccomend taking your truck to Kenworth NW in Marysville, Wa instead. They work on all models and I've never had a problem with them. Thank you for listening and have a safe ride

So the mechanic drove 30 miles with the oil pressure showing 0 and the oil pressure alarm screamng? THAT I find hard to believe.
-
i think he was meaning that they didn't change the oil but i could be wrong
-
that's what he means. NO OIL REPLACED.
and people are driving with 0 pressure on the gauge all the time.
gauges dooooooooooo break.
and i don't have an alarm that sounds when my pressure is zero waiting for the pressure to pump up after an oil change.
and the shop i'm unhappy about. is the kenworth shop in salt lake. for wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too many reasons after only one visit. and what was supposed to be an oil change and a couple of VERY minor repairs. turned into a major repair bill and almost a new truck. albeit still the old truck. -
I am slightly confused. If the OP went there and had a major issue why did he go back for some more work?
-
if you didn't "learn your lesson" the first time, you DESERVED what you got the second time.
if i were to get food poisoning at a sandwich shop (which i had actually done), do you seriously think i'll ever go back there again, and get a second dosing of poisoning..???
my sediments exactly..(pun in spelling, intended)BoyWander Thanks this. -
Well, it does sound like they did right by him when they owned up to running it without oil and repairing the damage.
Will these engines actually run 30 miles with no oil before they lock up? -
they just lock up real tight afterwards what is a few less thosands on the cam bearings anyway
Lucas oil claims you can run with no oil after regularly adding lucas. I dont know if i believe that but we
kept one of the engines running on my boat with no oil pressure for 3 weeks waiting for the new engine to come in
every night my mechanic and I would just lol that the beast was still running -
although i cannot remember the oil company name, but i am thinking Castrol, they did a tv commercial of 2 cars with out oil.
one used Castrol the other a known name.
the Castrol engine survived, the other got destroyed.
when talking of a $20,000 + engine, does one wish to really take such chances..??
i think he has bearing problems now as well.
again, whether or not the shop "owed up to" the oil incident, does one chance ever going back there..??
i know i would NEVER trust them ever again.
he went back, his transmission was screwed up.
seems to me, that shops does not have mechanics, but a bunch of hacks.
i feel NO SYMPATHY for him whatsoever.... -
Good question, maybe he's a company driver and has to go there.
