Please, for all you newbies, don't flash your bright lights at the truck that just past you.. If you can't turn your lights off, then don't do anything.. We know when we're passed.

Oh yeah, if the oncoming traffic flashes their lights at you, that means you need to adjust your headlights.

I appreciate the attempts at road courtesy from newer drivers even if its a high beam flash instead of a marker interrupt. At least it shows they are trying to be part of the trucker ways. Sure is a lot better then the mindless steering wheel holders that just started, never have a CB, and always ride the middle lane at 60mph regardless of how backed up it is behind them.

Oncoming flashing lights can mean a multitude of things. Road obstruction up ahead, bear up ahead, lights off during night, high beams left on, etc etc. In general it should just be taken as a *caution ahead* if anything.

Who teaches these new drivers to flash their brights in the first place?

You would think that dimming the head lights or flashing the clearance lights would be commonsense....

    Schools....courtesy of the DOT.

They consider it an unsafe condition for you to flip the light off, than back on.

As for the OP starting this thread. All I can say is "Here will go again":biggrin_25523:

It will be 20 pages of bickering over whether or not you should be looking in your mirror when you pass.

Schools are teaching to do nothing. Reasoning behind it is, if you "flash someone over" whether it be with high beams or by turning the headlights off for a half second, you are accepting part of the responsibility if something goes wrong.

That said, I would rather anybody just do nothing rather than flash the high beams just as I'm loooking for clearance in front of them. Nothing worse at night, to me, than looking at the headlights to judge my distance and POW!!!! brights full in my eyes.

I share your sentiments with the high beams.

But all schools are not the same. In this area, they teach a lot of things I disagree with. I'd be happy, if half of them went out of business. Or (god forbid) they be regulated to a set of strict guidelines.

Even then, the Fed will #### that up.

I hate the high beam flashers. Something I dont get is, dont they ever get high beam flashed by other drivers and think to their self "#### thats bright...I shouldnt do that to other drivers anymore."

My question to them is this.....

If you are too dumb to know you should NOT brightlight me, why should i think you're smart enough to know when I should move over ????
