I was on my return run this a.m when I saw in the distance a truck trailing an enormous shower of sparks behind it. As I approached my coffee stop, this truck and trailer pulled in ahead of me and stopped near my parking spot.
By now I realized what I had seen was a Swift truck that had been dragging a trailer with the landing gear in the down position! Of course the trailer had been significantly damaged since they had been pulling it since they left Lawrence, KS.!! (we were located just N. of Emporia KS.)
The two drivers were a trainer and his trainee. The trainer said he had been told by another driver that all of the trailers spotted at the DC he'd picked up at had automatic landing gears that came up when you backed under the trailer! So, they had never bothered to crank up the landing gear due to what he'd been told!!
What does that say about the quality of training these guys are getting!!!?????
Do you still need good reason to give these guys lots of room on the highways??
A testament to Swift training?

Here's one for ya. My dad works at a Walmart Super Center in the produce dept. They had a CRE truck bring a load in the other day, and the load was all over the trailer. Turns out the TRAINER jacked it and put it in the ditch.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Now I can breathe and start all over again......
That's one of the funniest posts I have read in a while. -
The ATHS Members antique truck VHS tape featuring Don Robertson's 1947 International shows him hooking to a trailer with automatic landing gear. The support legs flip up to the rear as the fifth wheel is moving toward the pin.
We old-timers remember air-pressure-powered support legs controlled with a small lever. That is the one they should bring back. -
I have automatic landing gear, I just automaticly put it up, or down!
Don't think I have seen that happen before but I have seen several people that must think the gear lowers itself when they are dropping trailers.
It just makes me wonder how anybody of even little intelligence could drive more than maybe 10 feet with the landing gear dragging and not know something is wrong. -
I think I`ve heard it all now.roflmao.Can we build a new "idiots only" highway???
