Rains83, I feel ur pain brotha. I've been outta work since 2009. Bumming, selling everything I own, etc just to survive. I got my CDL on Thursday and I've been filling out apps ever since. Well, I got a call from Star Transport out of IL this morning. The recruiter asked me a few questions and then emailed me some stuff. What the email included was their company brochure, an acceptance letter, and orientation info. She said the first available orientation would be around Jan 7 because they are waiting on a shipment of 200 brand new Peterbilt 386/387s. Starting pay is 36cpm and average mileage is 2000-2500/wk. Home 3 weekends per month (normally) but can stay out and make more miles and money if u want. I think their training program is around 90 days though, might not work for u. Just thought I'd share what info I have. Good luck to u.
A tired frustrated unemployed guy looking for the best "will train" company in Texas.

ATX said it best with the words "do whatever it takes to prove yourself". That cant be anymore true! Just take it as it comes but dont let anyone walk on you. You have to prove yourself. When you get mad just hold it in until you have the experience to back it up. I promise you that these Fleet Managers or Dispatchers or whatever you want to call them, dont care if you stay or go.If you disrespect them, they will help you find your way out the door. They have more new drivers beating down the door to get in that seat. Just learn all you can to get the experience and then run with it.
rbtwbstr, I am with you on the crap jobs lol. I worked for $8 an hour for 2 years in the oilfield driving a tank truck. I put up with low pay, all weather conditions, nasty mud all ocer me everyday, and amny more things i didnt want to go thru but look where I am today. I can go pretty much anywhere I want and get a job. Working like that gave me the ability to pick and choose as I please!mje Thanks this. -

I entered the ffe academy August 20 the. Sept 11 th I was o. The road with a trainer and erning a payc heck on Oct 16 I was handed the keys to a brand new freightliner and hit the road. I have earned 20 k miles since. I am pretty happy with ffe and really have nothing to complain about. Ffe has many veteran drivers of ten plus years. I feel its a company that I can stay with. Not like other training companies that everyone bails on ASAP. They r happy to let u b solo and have other opportunities for advancement at any time u like. They aren't perfect but I haven't been able to find better.
