In VA. Got letter stating had 30 days but the dates didn't match up. I called the auditor. Real nice guy. Was retired State police. He was in his way home from fishing. Said he would call me back in 10 mins when he got to his computer. He did. Told me exactly what I needed to send online. Cab card, medical certificate, 30 days logs, crash reports, insurance, and a few other minor things. Sent it in an hour after getting off phone. He called hubs an hour later said he'd never seen such an impressive packet with everything organised perfectly and we passed. Got a letter a week later. I really stressed about it but hindsight is it was the easiest part of everything we have done trucking.
A topic I rarely see discussed, how was your new entrant safety audit?

I’m in nv and hazmat so the auditor came to my house, where I keep my records, went over vehicle files driver files fed and state hazmat permits he reviewed my lease agreement with my owner ops and copied logs and delivery tickets, 3 days later I received a passed letter in the mail
rank Thanks this. -
NY is pretty simple, at least it was 5 years ago when I did mine. Upload a list of documents on the FMCSA website within the first 6 months or so and then you get a phone call from a guy going over everything. Pretty cut and dry.

I was summoned to a local DOT office. The audit took 30 - 40 minutes. He did check:
1. Drug Consortium
2. Driver File (my own) - employment application, drug test, driving record
3. Maintenance Records. - he went through it attentively.
4. Annual Inspection for truck and trailer
5. the logs, picked one month at random from the 6 months period, then selected a random sequence of 8 consecutive days of and looked at them rather attentively, not just brushing off - mind you it was before ELD went into effect.
6. Finally, asked about revenue, YTD mileage...
7. A little chat about this or that. I asked him some questions of my own too.
At the end, he said that all was good and I passed and an official letter from FMCSA would be sent.bzinger and TruckRunner Thank this. -
Thanks so far it doesn't sound like a big deal. OOIDA makes it sound like you need to have a phD to pass it.

You guys get a pass as far as vehicle inspections go depending on where you run. Most interstate scales have several thousand trucks a day to pick from, here it may be 50 even less some days. lol
Every time we hit the scales we sit there while they run our number, and see exactly what day we had our last inspection. If it has been 90 days they will usually come out and ask you when you had the last one. ( we have to keep a copy of it in the truck, till we get the next one) and I will always tell them it has been a couple of weeks.llol. They always come back with the exact date. lol -
They like to target carriers who have more trucks and the owner does NOT drive.
the 1 truck guys, they are better lax because they know its a lot on 1 guy.TruckRunner Thanks this. -
