At some point down the road, I will be finished school and sent to the trucking company to work with a trainer. I don't smoke. I do wheeze and cough around smoke alot, almost like an allergic reaction. I don't believe that my body could actually tolerate weeks in a small cab with a chain smoker. Would the company consider this when placing me with a trainer?
I just want to make clear that I have nothing against those that smoke, just that my body reacts to it in a negative way.
I know that in Ontario Canada to my understanding they recently banned smoking in trucks, designating them as workplaces. Is it like that anywhere here?
Thanks in advance for your comments.

Most companies I talked to will place you with a non-smoker. They are usually pretty good about this. The Company I now work for will definatley not put you with a smoker. Best of luck out there.

Am going to Crete after graduating Nov 1st, they have trainers assigned per male or female AND smoker or non smoker. Are you sure the company you are looking at won't do the same?
For the record i have nothing against smokers either, i just don't appreciate the money wasted by them for the opportunity to develop COPD and other health issues and to stink. OMG do some of these people waft a stale stink found nowhere else! ...And thier vehicles, Peeeeee-Yoooooouuu!! -
you can get a non smoking trainer, but you may have to wait longer. Same if you are female and want female trainer, you will wait even longer.

Oh awesome!!!! As a smoker, I've actually been a little worried about this. I'm a conciencious smoker, and do not smoke in certain circumstances, (children around, work, hospitals, non-smokers,etc...). But I don't think I'd last 9 hours in a vehicle notbeing able to. Outstanding news!

this is great news! I can't stand cigarette smoke. I have to deal with it enough at home as is, so to be able to be with a non-smoking trainer would be great. I couldn't stand being cooped up in a cab with the trainer smoking.

Some smokers are light smokers. They won't smoke in the truck, for instance. When you are discussing this with the person who assigns trainees to trainers, let them know your limits.
