Cool "Beeper"! Appears to be a late 50's or early 60's B75 Mack with integral sleeper, one of the 1st "condo" type trucks. Always liked the B model, and this was my favorite, although, if I actually spent any seat time in one, my attitude may change. I heard they were hot, noisy, cramped, underpowered and rode terrible, but that was trucking.

I don't know how to enlarge this, just found this old pic from 1978.I bought this truck new in 1977,4300 Eagle, one of the early ones, back when the factory would put very nice 5 color paint jobs on trucks, not just one color like today.Part of the Eagle package then was they gave you a Stetson hat, custom boots,Eagle belt buckle, sheepskin seat covers, jacket, and some other goodies I can't remember. Was alittle less than 40k new back then.Had a NTC 350,RTO 12513,Reyco,34" crawl through sleeper. That's as big as IH offered then.I eventually stretched this truck to 235" wb,added New Way air ride and a set of SQHD's.When I bought this truck I forgot to spec tubeless tires, and came with the 10.00-22's,changed that to 11.r24.5's latter also. The load I have on is the main engine house to an Ellicott river dredge, bound for Mexico. It was going to South America to dredge for gold.

Gigs, it is a small detail that only an old oil hauling geezer like me would notice, there is a loading pipe with a bucket on the end about 100' behind this truck. This fellow is next to a similar rack, bucket on top but no loading spout?. I wondered what he is doing. Possibly UNloading & was just dumping the bucket. I know, just a small detail. Also, look at the truss type frame under the tanker!

#12.jpg This was taken about 20 years after the pic in thread #118. Near Ventura, CA, 1974.(quite a difference!!) This was one that I drove for a year or so for the tanker outfit in Santa Maria, CA. 72 model with SC350, 13 sp. This was a "nice" truck. At the time I was the youngest driver out of 25 others. Nobody wanted the 2 axle cuz it rode rough unlike the truck & trailers. I got it with a set of wrapped tanks for crude & hot oil & a set of old old steel gas tanks. I always had good runs, naptha to LA then gas or diesel back. Hot asphalt was the best though, load real early in the a.m. & deliver 5 hrs away. Good duty. The gas tanks had so much rust in them we had to clean the outlet screens halfway thru the unloading.

I drove a 72 model similar to that, it had a 290, 13 over, 4:88 rear ends, we had a speed limit of 55 MPH along with Tachographs, both for speed and RPM. they checked them quite regular and it was not good for you if you drove over the 55 MPH.

When they rebuilt it they built it according to specs for a fuel squeezers that were coming out, hoping to gain fuel mileage.

They changed out my rear ends, don’t recall the ratio and blocked off overdrive. It gained a bit of mileage but not much.

As they rebuilt the others they blocked off direct so they only had over, boss said it was to costly to change all the rear ends. Those who drove those seemed not to like them, mine was not to bad. Not long after that I quit and when to running to the west coast and back.

If any of us came in with Tachographs looking like this, we would have been fired, of course with the rear ends we had we could not run that fast.

13 & subbase.jpg This is in Brawley, CA., summer 1979. We moved Kenai Drilling Rig #4 from Santa Maria, Ca. to drill some geothermal wells. I parked along side the sub-base in hopes of getting a little shade & a short nap then head home bobtail. Hwy 111 along the Salton Sea was concrete washboard, & this 72 Pete had 44K hendrickson RTE. You can guess how it rode. It was so hot that day, I had the heater ON, just to stay cool. Made a long day @ 700 miles round trip.
