Thanks truckdad, however, I don't see a sleeper in those photos. It looks like the bulkhead is up tight against the back of the cab. In case someone doesn't know what the "water bag" was for, I believe, on hot days, they would hang the water bag in front of the radiator, and let it drip, cooling the motor. (and btw, those trucks were loaded by hand)
Semi-retired, the pic on the left, front of the bed, just behind the bulkhead, 8' wide metal box maybe 2'x2'. "sleeper" Yeah.... those were the good ol days LoL & yes Albert, evaporation of the moisture on the canvas bag kept the water somewhat cool.

"Semi" , I found this one with a load of hay on with the coffin sleeper. Early 50s White. This is my uncle Harold. My dad & his 3 brothers all hauled hay in their early years & drove trucks all their lives.
OK, there it is. Never thought of looking BEHIND the bulkhead. So it must have been removable. I don't see it with the load of hay. I remember seeing pictures of sleepers in the nose of old round nose trailers. Drivers would climb out and jump in the cab, switch drivers while the truck was moving. I'm sure, back then, on hills, they were probably going 20 mph. Still.
