Thanks, truckdad, from what I can find, that chrome piece on the bumper indicates it may be a late 30's model 718. Note the small mirrors, air conditioning (cowl vent open) and 1 wiper.
Thanks for the claification on that "Semi", I looked on the back of the photo again & it read; 19?. whoever wrote that didnt know either!! To the casual observer, these trucks looked the same for years.

IMG_0091.jpg IMG_0092.jpg IMG_0093.jpg More from the 09 Huntsville show.....This 72 narrow nose had less than 200K miles on it, had belonged to an oil dist. co. It had a small cat 1673 I think. I always liked the looks of the 10.00 x 22" aluminum wheels. & the 750 Luber-Finer is right where it belongs, a good seat while washing windshield! This was a beautiful truck...
A little before my time, (like before I was born) but they called those the "bullnose" KWhoppers. Torsion bar suspension, good lord, we called it "torture bar". It was awful. Thanks, Giggs.
I had a couple of torsion bar suspension trucks. They weren't that bad but nothing like the rides you get today

Thanks truckdad, keep 'em coming. I think they made the "needle nose" for a few years after this, but as motors got bigger, a bigger radiator was needed, and most got the wider front. I like those chrome Luberfiners too, and some had a chrome PS reservoir next to it. You can have those pesky "tube-type" tires. If I never see another inner tube in my life, that would be fine with me. Tubeless was the greatest thing to come down the pike for trucks. This truck appears to have a different style "tattle-tale" on the dash.

10-4 on the tube types, "semi", when I was 15, I went to work for a trucking co.,& I was the chief washer, greaser, & tire guy. I busted those ##%&*!?+## 10-22s with the sliding hammer. remember those? Putting a new set of drivers on was a killer!! And I guess I was a fool because when I sold my trucks in 2008, I still did the tire work on the trailers, the small 215-75Rx17.5s. They were easy.

Oh yeah. Flat tires were just part of the job. Tubeless didn't really kick in until the 80's. It was, by far, my biggest gripe with the RR cans I hauled out of Chicago in the late 80's, early 90's. All those "Z" vans used tube tires, and most chassis. I had a tire blow the ring off once in a RR yard a guy was fixing for me. Good thing I wasn't next to it. Even to this day, I'm always leery of airing up a tire.:biggrin_25524:
