If someone has A-Z license could he drive a small truck like dump or would he need to also have a D-Z license?

In the states, if you have an "A" you can drive anything, except Motorcycle and bus, which you need a passenger endorsement.

You can drive anything (non-military of course that runs on roadways excluding motorcycles) with a Class A license and the necessary endorsements as required for the operation of such a motor vehicle. In other words, if you have a Class A license you don't need a Class B too for a dump truck, or a Class D to drive a car. The "A" covers all that.

Instead of D-Z I might as well train for A-Z then? a lot more going for it and still drive dump truck.

That is why I'm looking at getting my AZ. It widens the scope of jobs I can get. From what I've been learning so far though it will be difficult to find work unless you have experience. Most places want anywhere from 6 months to 5 years. So I'm thinking I would have to go OTR for at least 2 years before looking at something else.

Depending where you are some companies have pups for their dump trucks. In order to run a pup you would require an AZ licence so in order to open more doors might be good to get your AZ.
Have a buddy who has a DZ and wishes he would have gotten his A at that time. Can upgrade but then that means 2 road tests, more $$$
