Applied at ABF and went in to speak to the recruiter. Everything sounds great only thing I need information on is what are the schedules like for the new guys.average start time and what's the latest they start. Waiting on HR to get the paperwork going. Been driving for 8 years and currently start at 4am at my current job delivering food products.
Thank you

I have time with CFCC, CF, and R&L in big terminals and small. Your schedule will depend ALOT in the size of the terminal you’re at. EOTL or hub? How many drivers. ABF has a lot of rules dictated by Union as well. If you’re not comfortable telling people the terminal you’re at, generic info about the size will help them answer

Bottom of the board, we called them 10%’rs, in the city or dock operation are generally not guaranteed a start time or minimum hours per week. The west coast agreements may be different than the agreements I’m familiar with here in the Midwest. Generally once you get a start at the beginning of the week, they can only bounce the time around within say a four hour window, two either way from that start time. Generally in LTL as a low man there would be better opportunities to work at a larger facility, more vacation time, call offs, etc to cover. My advice would be to go to the larger center but I’ll defer to someone with specific knowledge of the unionized LTL environment in that part of CA. ABF is a good company, just avoid the drama and keep your head down and you’ll be fine. Hope this helps

So I guess we need to start with did you apply for linehaul or local?
I was linehaul (road), so I can give you some information about that.
Top pay is currently $25.6824 an hour for delay and .644841 cpm. If I'm not mistaken, local drivers made a dollar more per hour than us, but your local situation may differ.
The schedule comment really made me laugh, at least concerning linehaul. You won't have to worry about that for a while. Let's put it that way. Lol
24/7/365 on call until you get a bid. Good luck surviving it. Lol it's a lifestyle, more than a job.
Local guys work hard, but they have a much more reasonable schedule. Linehaul guys have the worst of both worlds, but make more money.
Benefits are nothing short of top-notch. Go get a scan just because you're bored. You'll barely pay anything. Hopefully where you applied is not throwing money into the Central States pension fund, but if they are...well, set up a Roth IRA and 401(k). You're gonna need a supplement.
And that's all I got as I sit with my morning coffee. Ask anything I didn't cover, and I'll be back later.TheFriscoKid, Lumper Humper, 90262DRIVER and 3 others Thank this. -
Ope, you said "city" right there in the title. I missed that.
So my information was mainly for linehaul, but I think you can kind of get a feel for what you're dealing with there.
If I had it to do over again, and I didn't get my current job, I would still be wishing I had taken a city job there rather than linehaul.90262DRIVER, MACK E-6, McUzi and 1 other person Thank this. -
