Hey drivers.... was hoping to get some insight from anyone who currently works or has worked for ABF in Conley GA.
I am 23yrs old, trucking has been in the family since the 60s and I currently have about 2.5 years of OTR experience with one company. (Sitting in CDL school on 21st birthday) Full endorsements and only one minor non-DOT preventable that happened in my first 9 months of driving. I do not have a high school diploma.
I love my job and am very happy with my current company but I'm looking towards the future now and want to step into something local within a year.
I live in the South Atlanta Metro area and I've got my sights on the ABF terminal in Conley... but I have a few questions and concerns I was hoping to gain some insight on. I'd love to hear your opinions even if you don't personally work there but have alot of experience with the LTL side of the industry..
1) On the P&D side, is there a time of year I want to avoid starting? (Worried about layoffs in the slow season for those without much seniority)
2) Would it benifit me to show up in person after applying? (Some local companies seem to not like this)
3) What kind of hours do the P&D guys average? Do they try to screw you out of hours after the 8hr OT cutoff? I'm hopeing for more than 8hrs a day...
4) What is the Line Haul side like in comparison to the P&D side? (Other than the obvious such as hometime and 20+ stops a day)
5) What's your take on the management side? I can tolerate quite a lot of BS before I even get annoyed... but I'm used to a very personal friendly relationship with the staff at my current company. Do I need to brace for a culture shock?
Thanks for any help!
Keep the shiny side up.
