abf is currently looking for part time driver/ dock. What are the probabilities of getting a full time spot. Or is the job titled part time because you drive part if the day and work the dock part of the day.

I applied for two full time positions today via their web site - both for new drivers - one city driver position the other OTR. Both out of PA

And seems to take about 30 days to get through the hiring process. Call the terminal in a couple days to make sure they know you sent in an application. I have a friend who started with them in Ankeny IA and he said their hiring process could be better.

It's labeled part time, because it's part time. I applied here in St Louis last year, they called me back 3 months later.

I went through their laborious intake process last year, only thing I heard back was emails with more postings. Each time I would have had to go through the whole process again. Might just stop by the terminal this week and say hi. Or get shot. :^)

A three month delay in response isn't a very good indication of the company if you ask me.

ABF pay is Wet Dream type good , okay , if you qualify for their hiring area , and seriously want the wet dream pay , you find out how long they keep that app on file. Keep applying until you become a familiar face. Then maybe you create your own link with them. A lot a walmart drivers get in this way. It's about who ya know and if ya don't know anyone in the highest paying jobs in trucking , you have to become a familiar smiling face with a nice personality then one day you have a wet dream ....It's happens they call ya.

I'd love to work for them since they have a location about a mile from my home - as does Pitt-Ohio and Venizia, but they all want experienced. I'll keep plugging away though.

How do they handle slow periods? I'm guessing that the low seniority guys are on unemployment, if they made full-time?

Layoffs are inevitable in any local 705 and 710 Union Job , I just spoke about it on a Poly trucking board.
YRC as of 5 years ago , 22yrs seniority was the lowest on the Seniority board up in the Chicagoland area. A lot of grown men were literally crying up there. I know one that had 23 yrs and thought it was gonna get to him. He had to transfer when they shut Chicago Ridge down. He Chicago Hts now but hey ... that okay considering his options. There are union companies with unions that are shameful , so this basically is confined to YRC ,ABF , UPS , and USPO. there may be a handful more but not many , these companies layoff as needed to remain in business.
