I don't know the details, but i read on another board that the chicago locals were pitching a fit, and that they were basically told "re vote and get it right, or we will pull your charter and put your local into receivership". meaning that the local would be under operation by the international, from what i understand.

little bit different for new penn, they were told "re vote and get it right, or the company says they will shut you down, and if and when they do, since you aren't marching to the hoffa jr beat, you will get an ENDTAIL onto the seniority boards instead of the proper DOVETAIL".

I am sure that some guys would have loved to strike, since these are the same men who have had to jump from job to job over the last 20 to 30 years to maintain their pension contributions and had not been afraid to strike before when it meant finding another teamsters pension job, and starting at the bottom of the list again.

This time, the international totally stabbed them in the back, and I don't hear any pro union talk out of drivers from ABF or YRC at this point when i am around town doing p&d. ABF feels like they have been sold out with YRC's "sweetheart" deal, and one driver told me that ABF hasn't turned a profit in a year and a half. He also stated that he personally didn't care about the pension, since it is in bad shape anyway. I was at Hollands yard a couple of days ago picking up a box, and talked to the dockworker there. He didn't think they would make it even with their 5 year concessions, and was in his 2nd year of school for electronics. He said that they were busy, but didn't sound too optimistic about the re entering of the pension plan next july at 25% of their former rate. It seems that no one thinks it will happen, and that they will just ask for MORE concessions.

yep, this vote has made your sams club card as valid as any teamsters card. I've been quick to back the union on anything that makes sense, but this is just getting embarrassing. no company will ever sign union cards again after crap like this. why vote on a contract if the only vote the union will recognize is a "yes" vote?

ABF's beef is that they signed and have maintained the MASTER freight agreement which all of the major (and there are less every month) LTL's agreed to. YRC has gone and negotiated a seperate agreement, but they were covered by the master agreement. I'm sure none of the Unions or their employess at the companies other than YRC are going to suddenly decide they want less money to match the cuts YRC got.

no, ups should be solid, since they are not under a multi employer contract, but their own. plus, they are sort of the poster child for the international. they will let everything else go to ####, but will keep ups in a top of the line contract so they will always be able to say that they set the rates for the top jobs in trucking. Nevermind that they are in the process of losing another segment of the trucking industry, because they cover ups, a job so hard to get into you might as well not even try.....

I support unions, and I would like to be able to throw support behind the teamsters, but what they have done with the nmfa over the last 2 years has been embarrassing.

there have only been 2 companies under the current nmfa, yrc and abf. and i would imagine ABF is supremely pissed because when their workers voted no on concessions, the union let it stand, while as when New Penn voted no on concessions, the union rammed it up their ### with a " vote again, and get it right, or else you are going to lose your job" ploy.

So...likely the ABF board will be looking for a way to "shove" a similar concession up their employees ###? Seems logical . Or ABF will likely fold as a cheaper YRC takes their freight, yes? ( If all stays as it is ) ?

And agreed....no employee would gladly accept a concession however.....times are tough and when your job is threatened, your pension threatened..... your very likely to do what you have too and buy the time you need ( to find something else, to hit the numbers for retirement ) . Been there.......

Regarding the lawsuit...... what on earth could the law do? Tell YRC to reinstate the contract as written? ( Death of YRC ) Tell ABF s'ok to shaft your guys like YRC ?
Or take cash from the union and YRC and give it to ABF to support more expensive operations? ( Not likely ) It's a no win.

    Your opinion?
