Just got the ok to drop this load at our Colton yard. Good, now we can get back a day earlier. The way our dispatch is set up I won't know what I'm doing next until tomorrow afternoon. Why should the driver be in the loop?

Abilene told me home three weekends a month, 40% of their regional freight was in NE. 2500-3000 miles a week on regional. I live off 360 in Va. so I think I'm in a good spot for freight. Any truth to what they said? If I choose regional will I be in NE 100% of time? How far do regional driver go out? Jw not something I'm worried about but would like an idea on what I'd be doing. I really only need home every other weekend anyway. ThAnks Mike

Thats it in a nutshell. You'll see up and down the I-95 corridor, Chicago, occasional Texas and Colorado. And a bunch of the NE. The miles are right, and living off 360 is a bonus.

Got somewhat of a preplan for tomorrow. I'll drop this loaded trailer in the Colton yard, grab an empty reefer and drive the 4 miles to drop and hook a produce load that will be ready at 4 pm going back to gordonsville va for Saturday morning. I was given the pickup number but the rest of the load info will be sent to me after I arrive at the shipper.

So I called Kimberly this morn and said I would be at the yard tonight or tomorrow morn. She was pretty adamant about tonight and said she had it set up. So I get here, send in my empty and end trip. Nothing. I go in and scan my paperwork and then go see Bo. He said there is nothing on me and there is nothing on the yard. He said they come in at 0800. So I'm just gonna tell myself she has something up her sleeve that I need fresh hours for or I'm gonna get PO'd for spending my drop the ball night at the yard.

It seems to me the problems with dispatch are solely a lack of communication issue. I just don't get it, but maybe that's how it's intended to be.

    UTurn1 Thanks this.

Thanks for your reply johnboy. Do both terminals do orientation? How was the road test ? I've never been in an auto.

Orientation is done only in Richmond. It's 2 full days. They put you up in the motel right up the street from the terminal and feed you lunch. The road test is very simple and straight forward. You'll leave the yard, drive 6 miles south on 95 to one of our biggest customers, pull into their lot, back into a spot and that's it. Think of an automatic as just like your car, put it in drive and go. I'm not so old school that I don't enjoy the ease of an automatic. I've driven automatics the last 5 years, nothing beats drinking a cup of coffee coming over the GW Bridge at 6am while not having to shift.

You'll do okay. You'll just put a hole in the floorboard like I did looking for the clutch.

    JohnBoy Thanks this.
