A GFCI detects the slightest amperage difference between the hot and neutral. The battery charger normally will not nuisance trip a GFCI. However, a fridge will. The motor will cause a amp difference between hot and neutral. Even in an inverter situation. I agree with charlb that a non GFCI plug will work better. But, code requires that all exterior plugs, or plugs installed in a damp area,(kitchen sink or restroom), to be GFCI protected. The inverter in my KW has a GFCI on it, but the 2 outlets in the sleeper are normal outlets. My KW also has a 20amp shore power connection. So, as I'm not sure on the Freightshakers or Volvo'so, I too must recommend a minimum of 12 Guage cords. 12 Guage is rated for 20 amp startup, and 16 amp continuous.

Legnth of the cord can make a difference, too. 183' is the rule of thumb for voltage drop. Without getting into deep theory, as long as you keep your cord no longer than 150', a 12 Guage cord will do the trick. 200' will increase a cord size to 10 Guage, and now it gets expensive. Feel free to ask any electrical questions.

Welp, another wasted day in LA thanks to Walmart and their nonsense rules. Seems I may never get out of here. Might write about later on the laptop. Right now I'm having a meal at the Three sisters truck stop. Had the truck washed. My dime of course but I hate a dirty truck and I draw the line when I get dirty climbing in & out of it. Lol

4mer trucker, JohnBoy and KD5AXG Thank this.

Not only was I a Journeyman Electrician for many years, I was asked to teach at the electrical school I graduated from. I love electrical work. But had to retire due to my bad (and worsening) knees. I still carry an up to date electrical reference book with me wherever I go, as well as my basic tools.

Delivered in Illinois, just south of Chicago. At a Petro doing laundry.

I called in earlier to see about my next run, but will have to call in again in the morning. So, sitting on an empty refer. Guess that means I'll be getting the no refer Gatorade run? I sure hope not.I'm not good enough to run overloaded.

Thanks, but unfortunately I don't have any say so in who gets assigned to who. In my case the only requirement is a non smoker, non dipper, non vapor. Having never smoked in my 60 years, I'm sure you can see why.

chralb, ChrisL and KD5AXG Thank this.
