@chralb, and I'm adding my .02 (devil's advocate that I am :angel13:). Sometimes, even if you get that phone call, things don't really change, or only change for a moment and then go back to what they were or just a tiny bit better. At the time of the conversation, the boss is sincere (I wholeheartedly believe that.) and does want you to have a successful career here. Some of it is right place right time, some is not.[/QUOTE]

I got this idea from you when we first met at Richmond. I took mental notes and saved them deep in my mental archives in case such a time came upon me.

When all this hit the fan last month, I had to do some heavy soul searching. The wife and I agreed that OTR in Abilene's way was not working out for me. I don't understand the "we are 48 state" when they can't get me to a port city, be it Mobile or Houston. If you recall, I questioned if I should have been hired or not.

Now, I don't really know who is being honest with me or who is pulling my chain. And frankly, I don't give a ####. AJ called me this morning to make sure we made it to Houston okay. We chatted for a bit, but came up with the same conclusion: I live outside Abilene's hiring range. Abilene doesn't have a hiring area yet, but I think there will be one implemented soon. We agreed that my resignation was the best for all. I will resign on November 1. AJ approved me returning the truck to West Memphis.

Yes, I have learned that OTR is not my cup of tea anymore. My new local jobs may not be glamorous as OTR, but I will get to go home every night without fighting for it, and, when the full time job slows, as construction tends to do, I'll be able to go home, fish, wrench on my car, or go teach at the college where I got my CDL back. I'll also be able to handle "honey do's" as they come up, not bust my tush to get them all done in 2 days. I respect you that can do this, and I'll do my best to teach the students the basics so as to make things safer for all of us.

    Pease, and o7.

Not at all. I just did that same thing today. I refused a trainee because I have home time coming up next week.

You refused the trainee and he can be placed with someone else, if available . I went out for 2 days and now sit for 2 days with no training, no transportation , in a town that has little to offer and where I know no one . The trainee they had assigned to you may be in the same boat. I don't blame you or my trainer but I think, not checking the trainer's home schedule before assigning, falls into poor planning .

So they should have let you sit in a hotel and pay you till Monday? Instead they did the best they could to give you a little experience till then. Your in trucking the best of plans don't always come to be. They could have had other plans for you and they fell thru. A load cancelled, truck broke down or a trainer became ill. And they didn't make it back to Richmond

Welcome to trucking buttercup. Plans change at a moments notice. There's nothing you can do about it. Just keep going and make the best of it.
