Abilene Motor Express....A New Place To Call Home

Well I got my fridge replaced. I also got my load. I bobtailed down to Newport News to pick up a preloaded trailer going to San Bernardino for Sunday night. I called Tim my trainee and told him to enjoy one more night at the house, that we would leave in the morning. I also wanted a night out of the truck to give my back an extra day off also. This is a nice load, except it all changed when I got back to the yard. The trailer I picked up had 2 bad tires, so I brought it right to the shop. While they are changing them, Jonathan stops buy on his way to our loading dock and tells me he took me off the load and asked me if I had my passport with me. I told him I did and he tells me he is giving me a 2 stopper, Portland Oregon and Vancouver British Columbia, emptying Monday and Tuesday. I told him that Tim doesn't have a passport and I'm told that they go through this every week and that they get a motel room at the border and I'll go in to do the drop, then pick him up on my way back out. My load is being loaded tonight and will be done in the morning. I guess giving up a 2560 mile load for a 3200 mile load is a good reason to do this, plus an extra $100 for crossing into Canada and the extra stop pay.

 

I'm thinking the two recent tours in Afghanistan he had should do, but hey, these are the Canadians we are talking about.

 

I spent the first half of today waiting on my customs papers to cross the border, and the other half watching the guys on our loading dock load and unload my trailer 3 times to put more freight on it. I now have 5 drops between Salem Oregon and Seattle Washington then the 6th and final drop in BC. My head us spinning and I haven't even left yet. Plus just in case I haven't played in snow, ice and wind enough this year, they are calling for up to 8 inches of snow from Ogallala Nebraska to western Wyoming. I'm going to bed, 5am will be here real soon.
