Been sitting at this Flying J that's a mile west of a California state prison and a mile north of the Mexican border since, oh, 2:00pm East Coast time yesterday. Just got a call from my FM letting me know that they're going to sit me for a full 34. So much for my dreams of layover pay.
Kinda confused about this truck stop, though. They've got signs all over the truck entrance and additional signs leading to the building informing all and sundry that this is a private parking lot and overnight parking is not allowed without a permit. Well, since it's the only truck stop I could find near where I delivered yesterday, I went ahead and ponied up for the reserved spot.
Then I get up this morning and see that most of the trucks parked in the normal (i.e. free) spots were the same ones I saw there yesterday. So apparently the prohibition on overnight parking is somewhat nebulous. -

There's also the old 76 t/s at xit 76, run down little dirt lot of a place but the folks are nice. Fills up pretty early, though. I got stuck there for 2.5 days a couple years ago in one of KY snow storms. And I just finished out my break there after delivering yesterday morning st 6 am (after staying on the dirt lot at the candle factory for most of my 10).460/580 Thanks this. -
Boy let me tell you, I've had to play hell 3 out of the last 4 times to get home for hometime, but those 3 times had to be the easiest drops ever. All 3 were within 5 miles of my house. This last one was the best, and for an HP drop, that's pretty good. I got home noon on Tuesday, left the house at 7:30am Wednesday, got to the drop at 7:50 and was empty at 8:30, then back home at 9. Too bad the actual getting the load home to start home time was such a fiasco. But, such is the life of trucking.
I'll be leaving out on Saturday, timing now plays a big part for my next home time, I'll take my hometime then carry it through into my vacation. Costa Rica is calling! Meanwhile, like last year at this same time, I'll be gone for 18 days in the heart of the winter, and just like last year, will probably get shut down in an Iowa blizzard for 2 days.
Be safe everyone!popcorn169, MidWest_MacDaddy, Lonesome and 1 other person Thank this.
