A week ago I was chasing my wife around the beaches in Costa Rica, Today I was playing in this Wisconsin/Minnesota blizzard. Nothing like coming full cycle.

Spent most of the day yesterday on the yard in Richmond, waiting for a load. I had started my day at 4:30am, got to the yard at 8:30am, and started eating into my 14.
They finally sent me a load at 3:00pm, for a 4:00pm appointment in Chesapeake, which is an hour and 40 minutes away from the Richmond yard under the best of conditions. And yesterday was Friday, and the weather was nice. And it was close to rush hour.
After calling the shipper, we rescheduled the appointment to 8:00am this morning, because they leave at 5:00pm and they didn't want their last truck rolling in at 5:05pm. At which point I found out that the Virginia Beach/Newport News area is a vast, desolate wasteland as far as truck stops go. Eventually made my way to this Love's in Franklin, which caused my GPS a tremendous amount of agita because the road right in front of the Love's is (as far as my GPS is concerned) restricted access, no trucks allowed. It was trying to send me an extra 9 miles out of the way just to approach that stretch of road from the other side so as to minimize the amount of "restricted" road on which I had to travel.
Anyhow, this Love's has a Bojangles, which makes everything alright. Off to hit the shipper here in Chesapeake, then spend the rest of the day sitting on the yard at Richmond because this load doesn't have to be in Chattanooga until Monday, and I feel like taking a day off and maybe spending some quality time with a young lady of my acquaintance.MidWest_MacDaddy, Redtwin and Crusader66 Thank this. -
Yep, my area here really doesn't like trucks. Guess it's all the container traffic around. Even the Wally Worlds don't let you park. There is a little no name t/s at the intersection of 460/58 in Suffolk. Has a Huddle House. There's Frank's rat hole of a t/s on S Military Hwy where 58/460/I664/I64/I264 all come together right after the scales on 58. There's Big Charlie's rat hole of a t/s on Northampton Blvd in VA Beach. There's also several small places along the way on 460 in Windsor (DQ), Ivor (Stuckeys). I'd have just stayed at the yard and run it all in the morning instead of going way out of the way to Franklin, which is just about as far as Richmond from Chesapeake. Live and learn.MidWest_MacDaddy, slick mick and Redtwin Thank this.

A smart man would get where he's going to eliminate the chance of an oh oh moment.MidWest_MacDaddy and JohnBoy Thank this.

When I got the load assignment, I just jumped in the truck and headed out, because I thought Givens was a 24-hour operation and that they'd be able to load me up even if I was late. Wasn't until I was over halfway there that I found out they leave at 5:00pm and we would have to reschedule for the next day.
But yep, will definitely know better next time. -
Maybe so. But this man has a chance to get horizontal with a ladyfriend, and it's hard to pass that up.
