I would pay $50 or more to stay out of NYC. One of the companies I worked for went to NYC. They also paid $50 plus 5 cents per mile extra. I did a couple loads to Astoria, Maspeth, and Brooklyn. I also did a couple places on Eastern Long Island.
The amount time you waste in traffic once you are off the Interstate plus the time you wasted on the Interstate. Then add to that the stress of getting a 70 ft vehicle into a space designed for a 26 ft box truck. That $50 doesn't even begin to compensate. I left Bay Shore, Ny to pickup in Elizabeth, NJ. It was the most frequent one I did. It was 62 actual miles. It would take me anywhere from 2 to 3 1/2 hours.

It will bite you sooner than that too such as I found out when recently applying for a loan and the Lender basing income on what is stated on my W2, not what I actually made last year.

My CDL was 20 years old and my most recent driving experience was 14 years old...in a straight truck. I got hired and did a month with trainers.

I had 6 months experience and got right into my own truck.

Looking back, I wish I'd have been given a trainer for at least a minute. Couldn't find my way out of a wet paper bag. Don't know when it clicked, it just did.

I had 35 years when i showed up at the front door with my baggage, they felt sorry for me and let me hang around.

Home at last. Got home about noon yesterday. 3 weeks to the day since I left. A little much. But good to be home.

    Only three weeks?

Some guys here can do that standing on their heads. When you've been out for six months, now that's something. :biggrin_25523:

Not for this rookie. 2-2.5 is my limit, I have far too much to go home to. And in a few short years I'll finally be out of the tunnel enjoying the light, not the train.

@Flattie C hasn't been home since she got hired. Probably close to a year now.

4 months has been the longest for me. If I didn't need to get home to do my taxes I would have stayed out longer.

Guess some of us have more to go home to than others. Personally, I'd rather go home and see what's more important to me than the almighty dollar, my family, while they're still here. In fact, I'd love to take off 3 months out of the year. If I could swing it financially, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
