Well I'm done for the day, a whopping 268.3 miles for the day. 93 miles to drop this trailer off at a publix, then 177 miles home.

Hate groveport for this too. Would be much easier if we could slide once we are lined up in hole. Nope gotta do it at the gate smh
-
Are you still with us?, haven't seen you around in months.
Just to keep it on topic, I prefer tandems forward, rig is more maneuverable when setting up for the back, and you can get the back of the trailer in the hole giving you more swing room for the tractor before having to deal with tandems.
The trick I've found when backing with forward tandems is to watch the back of the trailer itself, not the tandems.JohnBoy Thanks this. -
I bet the owner of the Maserati got his blood flowing too when he saw you inching past his car.

Not enough to make him not park where trucks regularly back in though.
MidWest_MacDaddy and JohnBoy Thank this. -
I bet the change in policy was due to drivers sliding tandems forward after hooking while in a slot and smacking that expensive looking chain link fence.JohnBoy Thanks this.

I think you hit the nail on the head. The younger generation is lacking, and those of us on the cusp of being old curmudgeons don't have the patience to put up with them. I'd like to think I might make a decent trainer (at least Abilene was almost pushing me to be one anyway), but I think I lack the fortitude of JB. I'd probably end up whacking someone on the head (and that wouldn't be good !).
Don't fret. Everyone has those days. Old hand or rookie.bigred81, Rocknroller4, 460/580 and 3 others Thank this. -
Boar's Head in Forrest City, Arkansas, is even worse. I swear, that yard is about the size of my bedroom.
Edit: no, now that I think of it, I don't remember having to slide my tandems there. I may be conflating it with Groveport.Last edited: May 7, 2017
JohnBoy Thanks this. -
I like the idea of training as I seem to have an aptitude for helping others learn. It's the living in the truck with someone else that I couldn't deal with.MidWest_MacDaddy and RebelChick Thank this.

You are. In Forest City, if you ever feel unsure about making a uturn or spotting an empty, or even pulling a loaded trailer out or the dock or a spot, just ask the older dude that drives the yard truck. He lets anyone know that he rather get a trailer ready for us to drop or hook then for someone to hit something. He's really cool about it.
