This is what I was alluding too earlier. People saying 2,4,6 weeks or 2 months is too long, or it's going to upset ones way of living. My question, how bad does someone want this? It's not forever, deal with it and go on with your life, and just maybe, you'll have a new career.

Absolutely man. I mean, after having to sell my mom's house to pay all her doctor bills which left me homeless for a year living in my Durango, I came here last July 4th with that car and a couple hundred bucks to my name. Not even a year later I have a new honey, new teeth, a new home and money in the bank ... a new LIFE!
3 weeks? Crap dude, I'd have gladly done 3 months to be where I am now. We might have killed each other but I'd have done it!
.... lol
bigred81, Lonesome, JohnBoy and 1 other person Thank this. -
One nice thing about having extra time is the attention you can give the rig and load. She's all clean inside, cleaned all the glass, a nice thorough going over every detail of the truck and trailer, put new filters in the front and back air ducts. And, got inside the trailer to make sure these coolers are secure. On my last HP run, 4 of 5 coolers were damaged due to not being secured properly. I am NOT going through that again!

All looks good. I'll top off the tanks before crossing into CA, grab a couple hours shut eye and roll about 4:30pm for this 9pm drop. I figure traffic won't be too bad at these hours going into Bakersfield and the run up north to Santa Clara should be pretty clear as well.
Be safe all. See ya on the flip side. -
You're both right. I guess I've let that whole stuck with a trainer thing get in my way of starting. As well as being comfortable where I am currently living and a bit nervous of the challenges out there on the road. Maybe because I read too many stories and seen many accidents but I put it into perspective and think well I drive on the highway in my regular car so.Lonesome Thanks this.

Well, no question there are really bad "trainers" out there and a lot of the nightmare stories we read are likely based in some truth. That's why it's so important to seriously do your due diligence in researching anyone you may consider to train with.
For me, I came across this thread. I read the first 200 pages. Then I went to the end and backed up 50 pages to see if the guy who started it was still posting. (We all know how so many start a thread and then disappear while others keep it going for a while). He was and I read them. Once I was convinced he was the real deal, we made contact thru the PM here. Then on the phone as well. Ask John, we spoke for an entire week or so before I decided to leave PA and come here. But there was no question in my mind at that point.
LOL ... we even had the powers that be a touch confused because I smoke and John is adamantly against it. I think we each got a few phone calls from the folks in charge when I said I want John for the refresher, and he said he wanted me on his truck.

Sounds like you didn't smoke and drive while you were with John. And drove nights. Man, you really did want this.
-
I barely smoked at all. Certainly never in the truck and for the most part, not even around it or him. I respected the man and his ride. That was the agreement.
I'm not sure if it did any good, but I even washed the clothes I brought twice before climbing onboard just in case.
Wanted and needed ... yes.
-
Good for you. You sound like a very honorable guy. From a Durango to a truck. John's KW must have seemed like a palace at first.
-
It was the other way around for me. Never smoked in my life and spent nearly 3 weeks on a smoking trainer's truck.
I needed nicotine patches for a couple days after I got my own truck.
runningman0661, chralb and JohnBoy Thank this. -
Well John's truck was a little crowded for two people but, once I got in my Volvo, it was like moving uptown for sure.
MidWest_MacDaddy and mitrucker Thank this.
