Communication issues usually revolve around slow responses to questions or a dm not answering the phone. For me this usually only slows down getting a efs check for lumpers. Most of our loads dont require much contact with abilene. They do not micromanage. Get ur load, deliver it. Routing, fueling, managing your clock are on the driver. If its a broker load, you deal with the broker.
Compared to the horror stories about the megas. Abilene is much better.
I encourage anyone to read the 1st 10 pages of every 100 and you will have a great idea of the routine experience here. Communication is our gripe because everything else is really good.

I finally communicated with my FM after not talking to anyone since I left Richmond last Thursday. For me it's great going 4 or 5 days and not communicating. I let the QC take care of that. If I wasn't unloading at 8pm tonight and making sure I had a plan for when I got empty, I'd let the tracking part of the system talk for me.
*edit* I did send in my hometime request last Friday morning and got the "ok, good to go" response back. Does that count as communication?460/580, Lonesome, RebelChick and 2 others Thank this. -
Tried again today. This time the operator said that the recruiters have been really busy, especially since one is out today, so I may have to leave a message. Then she told me to hang on and transferred me.
Phone rang twice then disconnected.
I'll try again tomorrow. I just wanted more info to make a well informed decision
Not that I don't appreciate this thread and everyone here; this is one of the main reasons I'm leaning so strongly towards Abilene!MidWest_MacDaddy and JohnBoy Thank this. -

That pesky camera discussion raises its ugly head again. The only time I even remotely realize its on the windshield is when someone mentions it. After 4+ years driving here, and what I make, along with my hometime, I could care less about them. In the 4+ years here, I have never once been called on the carpet about my driving, the 4 hard brakes I've had or even waking up in the morning, sitting on the edge of my bed, with nothing more then a smile on my face. In case anyone was wondering where they are mounted or what they look like, here's a couple of pictures.
Like I've said numerous times over the years, I work for someone, it's their truck and liability. In my case, I look at it as another set of eyes that will protect me in this sue crazy, truck driver fault society we live in. Hell, I even have a camera in my wife's car and in mine, just to make sure I'm not accused of something that I didn't do. In my wife's case, it helped us tremendously 2 weeks ago when I was home, her brand new leased 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited with 2,000 miles on it got t-boned at a red light a mile from our house. She was at the red light, took off when it turned green and some dickwad ran the red light. Her car got totaled, and dude said my wife ran the light. That all changed when we gave Progressive the video.
I for one want these cameras, especially with all these new drivers and old hands causing all this mayhem and carnage on the highways. If you hit me, cause me to wreck, I want to see every angle possible inside and out to show what you and I were doing up to and after the wreck.Last edited: May 22, 2017
