Once while I was at the west memphis yard I got a phone call offering me a BH brooklyn, Riverside CA, or a 4 day FL load. The guy on the phone even said "you probably don't want the NY load huh?".
Now why would he assume that?.
That was the first and only time I have been given a choice of loads.Barn Door Bill Thanks this. -
Funny thing is that I didn't find this stuff out by being at the yard. I don't have it like that!
One disagreement had nothing to do with driving, but a difference of opinion on an issue relevant to the company. The other was minor about an incident. And that was really only because he was saying something, while true, I didn't want to hear. Other than that, he's always given me good advice, and heck, even told me as far as he was concerned I was welcome to come back when I left the company. Which I did end up doing, as y'all know.
Safety is a thankless, hard job. No one likes safety, no matter the company. In my opinion, a lot of Scott's "reputation" is direct result of spoiled drivers who would run upstairs to the big bosses whenever they had to be disciplined, lack of support from that area, and the caliber of new hires. You cannot tie safety's hands and expect to not hit the fan and scores to rise. In case you don't know, our CSA last I heard from Scott, is 90. That is horrible. And it is the drivers that affect that score. So how in the heck did this company go from having a really good score to being in the crapper in just 3 years? Again, just my opinion, recruiting needs to be looked at. Stop just trying to put bodies in trucks like the megas, if we want to train, don't put drivers in their own trucks until they are ready (within a certain timeframe, say a month per phase instead of just a couple weeks), raise pay, and make it harder to get hired. I wonder how the person taking over is going to fare. I'm going to keep my opinion to myself on that one; however, I will say that unless something is done, we may be in for a bumpy ride.runningman0661 and Redtwin Thank this. -
Ding ding ding, jackpot, right here.Redtwin Thanks this.

What you are saying is true, but I'm conflicted in that I'm sure the only reason I'm here is due to that push to fill seats.
Considering my ancient driving school completion, total lack of experience and complicated employment history, I doubt I would given myself a chance.ExtremeUnction Thanks this. -
What happened on 35?

Bunch of Abilene drivers stopped and ticketed. Safety suggested that highway patrol were specifically targeting Abilene based on the frequency of the citations and inspections on a particular stretch of that road.MACK E-6 Thanks this.

I always check out that parking lot to see if any Abilene trucks are holed up there. If I ever had to stop there i would be sure to cover my truck number.
