Abilene Motor Express....A New Place To Call Home

Well, I met my new trainee. Super nice guy, career military. Hopefully this will be a keeper. The plus is he's a nonsmoker. I was given a choice of 3 loads today, the first was a two stopper, Winnepeg Manitoba and finals in Regina Saskatchewan, the second load was to bobtail to Lafayette Indiana to pick up one of the 100 new reefers, and the third one was a Sabra load going to Riverside for Monday afternoon, I took the Riverside. I told dispatch the only way I would go up to that part of Canada was only in the winter. Not. I'm outta here. Be safe all, God Bless.

 

I remember when I picked up a couple of new trailers there while I was at my other company, I was a nervous wreck until I got them back to the terminal. I spent the whole trip back worried that someone would hit them. I remember spending the night sleeping over the steering wheel with one eye open.

 

How long is she going to be with you? Put in a request with your dispatcher for a load west. Then teach her how to fuel the truck, do a pretrip, work the Qualcomm, check in with the shippers and receivers and do a proper drop and hook. By the time she gets home she'll be a full fledge team driver.

 

Made it to Dickson Tn. Got here at 1:30 this morning. Not bad considering coming out of Richmond at 12:30 on a Friday, 701 miles. The way I have this trip planned, I should make it to Riverside Monday at 11am for my noon appointment. No time to play this weekend, wait a minute, I don't play while I'm out here, that's what I do while home, this is work time.

 

I can't wait to hang up my truck driving sneakers, maybe one day some of these people in power should need some life saving piece of equipment that can't quite make it to their home or hospital because said driver is just fed up with all the red tape and hoops we have to dodge and jump through and decides to park the truck with whatever they are waiting for.
