This has been my week to get paid for playing video games and watching Japanese cartoons.
Started last Saturday when I was given a load assignment that didn't leave until Monday morning. Came with a note saying "Don't forget to put in for layover." No problem there, my friend.
Delivered that load on Monday. Follow-up load was to pick up some produce or something from Eskimo Cold Storage in Gainesville and bring it back to the yard so that a local driver could deliver it to Frednecksburg the following morning. Appointment was for 2:00pm. I got there a little after noon. Was told to park, they'd call me when a door was ready.
Call came at 1:40pm, and I briefly entertained the hope that I would be loaded in a timely fashion. It was not to be. Found out that some of the freight I was hauling had been late arriving. Some of the trucks hauling the freight I needed hadn't even arrived until well after I did. Sounded like they were literally off-loading freight from one truck and putting it directly onto mine.
I was watching the clock, and eventually there came a point where I knew I wouldn't be able to make it back to the yard. So I called HQ and let them know that they could either have me deliver the load late or they could have someone else deliver the load on time.
Didn't leave the facility until after 7:00pm. That was 4.5 hours detention. I was there so long that, not only could I not make it back to the yard, I couldn't even make it to the original location HQ had given me to swap with another driver. Had to call the other driver and make alternate arrangements.
Next morning, new load. Go to Nestlé in McDonough, grab a load, haul it to Allentown. At the time I received the appointment, the shipper was 3.5 hours away, and that's assuming Atlanta traffic was going to be favorable. The appointment time was 1.5 hours away. Welp.
Got there, spent literally an hour crawling through the line of trucks all waiting to get in the place. I have never had to wait that long just to reach the guard shack.
Bump a door, wait to be loaded. And I wait. And I wait. And I wait some more. And as I'm waiting, I'm watching the clock tick closer and closer to rush hour, with Atlanta between me and my destination.
Ended up with 1.5 hours of detention there.
Finally arrived at my destination, another Nestlé facility in Allentown. Appointment was for noon. I showed up at 11:20am. Was told to park off-site and they would call me when a door was available. I did so and 2.5 hours went by. They finally called me at 2:15pm, just as I started writing this post. Bumped the dock about 15 minutes ago and am still waiting for them to drop the dock plate.
Ah, they must've heard me thinking that, because they just did.
Anyhow, we're looking at an hour and a half worth of detention at least, if not more. Will keep you updated as events warrant.MACK E-6, MidWest_MacDaddy, jarhead0311 and 3 others Thank this. -
Still here. Got here at 11:20am for a noon appointment. Still in the dock at close on to 7pm.
