Alrighty then. Was it something I said?
intrepidor Thanks this. -
Good Luck... feel free to let us know where you land... always good to know what companies are attracting drivers and why.

If they’re too good to contact me and sell the company to me. Then I’m not interested. Also not interested in “earning” ONE day off by staying out for 6. That’s crazy. I’ll go find a local job or something.
TokyoJoe Thanks this. -
Good luck in your hunt. One day off for every six days worked is pretty standard in the industry. Unless you are a regional driver. Then you may get 34-48 hours off each week.Rocknroller4 and Sustanon Thank this.

My big complaint with Abilene is the nanny cams. Beyond that, you could do worse. These folks in this thread are for the most part content.Lonesome, RebelChick, MidWest_MacDaddy and 3 others Thank this.

That’s better than OTR. Idk, gonna try to find some local work instead.

Hey, been a while. How you all doing over at Abilene? I heard they were bought by Knight.. is that true?
@FloridaBoy93 well trucking is a lifestyle.. what they keep telling me. If you do find local work, all the luck. I was wanting local work after CDL school and none would take me. Have to start with a mega (SNI, Swift, etc). Funny tho because I found a local gig with SNI pulling tanker.. called recruiter and tells me it's been filled by a rehire.. haha. So what was the point posting it then? Was only up for a day..
Perhaps do OTR for 3-6 months and then look for a local that will hire you? What I was told.MidWest_MacDaddy Thanks this. -
Yes Abilene was purchased by Knight. Also some companies have changed there policy in which now they require drivers to have 2-3 years of OTR experience and this has do to with the pressure insurance companies have put on them.Rocknroller4 Thanks this.

@FloridaBoy93 ... what @Rocknroller4 says is pretty on point... Trucking, at least OTR, is a lifestyle... one travels the country, and boy is there a lot of pretty country out there, in their RV with a fifth wheel on back... it’s not always an easy lifestyle but nothing is rarely easy all the time... one is away from home a lot but one also gets the opportunity to visit friends and family when in their area.
and yes, local isn’t easy to do nor easy to find... many have you busting your butt all day to only get home for sleep and then return... so ya, you might “be home” but the quality isn’t there... and many do require experience before they will even hire you and OTR is the easiest place to get that experience... so maybe consider OTR for a year or two while you look for that great local job.
and in that case, you can do a lot worse than Abilene if you are just looking to get that experience and move on to local.
either way, good luck to you in your new career.gntorres61 and Rocknroller4 Thank this.
