My daughter tries me like this every so often but, then again, she's almost four. That adults run a business in the same way and don't starve is amazing.

That furniture costs more per piece than most of us make in a month. I pick up there a lot.

Wind advisory was up in WY from Laramie to Elk Mountain. I was alright with 20k in the box, kept it straight, just had to slow down a bit. Watched an Amazon owner op for a bit before going by him. Wind had his trailer on the shoulder as he was driving in the right lane and it looked like the wind even lifted his driver side wheels off the ground a couple times. Those guys are nuts....must be scared to death to pull over and wait in fear of being let go. Better to pull over and lose your contract than lose your truck and have to have insurance pay for all damage plus getting that fat citation not following the advisory sign. Later down the road saw a fed ex owner op in the median. Not sure if from wind or something else. DM emailed Jackie at XPO yesterday to reschedule the load due to snow and wind saying Id be there Thursday afternoon but grocery warehouses usually unload at night so I asked for 1am Friday so I can stil make my Doc appts when I get to hometime. She set it up for Sat night....can't do that. Trying to get it moved up or set for when I get off hometime. Stupid to drag load to Yakima then back to south of Portland then back to Yakima again. Im so not happy right now nobody isn't thinking right....

    Turns out:

The shipper knows that when they contract with Abilene, they are contracting for freight hauling, not unloading. They know that it is the receiver's responsibility to offload the freight, and they try to make that clear to the folks receiving the freight. However, because they're usually shipping to little mom-and-pop interior design and decorating places, the receivers don't always get the message. Dude at the shipper said he's had instances where the shipping address turned out to be a self-storage unit with the attendant there to unlock a storage unit and no one there to receive the freight.

The place I was delivering to today was a home design group with a warehouse, but the ultimate end user of the stuff I was delivering wasn't them, it was some other interior decorator. Not sure how that works out. The actual customer who is receiving the goods hired the company whose dock I bumped today.

They need to hire a better company, though, because after all the phone calls were made, the warehouse workers still refused to offload the freight unless someone else pushed the freight to the back end of the trailer. The two young ladies who actually purchased these goods and hired this warehouse bunch were the ones back there pushing the boxes to the end of the trailer so these warehouse dudes could "receive" them without having to set foot on the trailer. Didn't find that out until after.

I've had a few instances in the past where the receiver didn't understand that I don't unload the freight, but once they were made aware, they took care of unloading the freight themselves.

This is the first time I've had a receiver just flat refuse to offload the freight. I kinda get the feeling that making the two women push the boxes to the back of the trailer was their way of "winning" this standoff or saving face or something.

The same thing happened to me about 2 years ago with the same shipper. Dude at the Las Vegas convention center copped the same attitude. He was stop number 4 of 5. After a lengthy discussion about what the extent of my job was, I made one phone call to Richmond, 15 minutes later I was bumping a dock at a moving and storage company to get the 8 boxes off. There comes a time when the “not giving a f@&k” attitude comes into play.

I didn’t realize you had that problem in your world. God knows we certainly do.

Whenever I go to somebody’s house to deliver a gun safe, I always ask “how do YOU intend to get this to its final resting place”. I had one get refused once because they thought I was going to take it down into the basement.

    Yeah, ok.

We are 95% TL. We have about 5% LTL. Which is across the country. I’ve left Richmond with 6 drops and 4050 miles. I love it. Nice easy week. I love when I get to a stop and they ask me if I have a lift gate. I’ve had cars on my trailer that went from Norfolk to San Diego. That required a flatbed tow truck. I’ve had 3,000 pound computer servers that required a crane. The only time I get hands on with my drops is with our Military, those cars were for a husband and wife that got transferred to San Diego, those folks I didn’t mind getting involved, it’s the ones with attitudes that I enjoy dealing with.
