What a shame... not like he is in Nebraska or some place far from our Yards. I’m no where close but like JB said, anything we can do from afar?

Unfortunately, the only way you become a Publix driver is after you’ve put your time in as a warehouse worker, order selector or yard jockey. Then it takes years to get picked for a driving position. Oh, while the trucks are out early am and during the day delivering, the warehouse people are loading the trucks overnight.

Welp, I put my money where my mouth is. Sent 15 pizzas to the TA in Wytheville.

Thanks all. They finally are putting a plan in place to get him back to RVA yard.

Yeah, that didn’t happen. From the piecemeal I’ve gotten, there wasn’t any plan. Kevin in Wytheville called paramedics and he is now admitted to hospital there in Wytheville. It is very serious and I pray that he recovers. It is almost the exact same situation that my mother was in before losing her foot. I wish I could be there for him, but all I can do is be on the other end of the phone.

Ya, there was an opportunity to fuel and pretrip the trucks as they come and go... they said it could be as little as a few weeks to a few month before something opens up for a Driver... I hear it doesn’t take as long now as they seem to need drivers all the time but still hold onto that no direct hire policy... A few here said they worked in the store for 10-15 years before getting the driving gig...

Rumor has it that there will be a letter handed out in the morning allowing us Pop Up Fleet Drivers to use the Company Cafeteria... not sure if it’s gratis or pay as you go... guess we will see come morning.

    JohnBoy Thanks this.

That is one of my very few concerns about being OTR... having some serious issue while being so far from home. Its gotta be rough on both driver on the road and their family back home.

    JohnBoy Thanks this.

Yes. And as I’m talking to him this morning, it’s bad. It’s really bad. And his family is not allowed to go to him, even though they’re only 4 hours away.
