When I drove for Hogan delivering to Save A Lot stores, we regularly picked up store "garbage" and hauled it to our next loaded stops. Empty pallets, baled up cardboard (including blood stained meat boxes) and used shrink wrap. All piled in the back with the food. The trailers were reefer units without partitions so they were set at 33F and everything was loaded in there, frozen food, refrigerated and dry...all at the same temp.

I would suggest that no-one buy meat or milk from Save A Lot, but I doubt any of you did anyway.

It has been a nice change of pace... and for the most part not a terrible gig... but I do look forward to returning to OTR once this is all behind us.

it’s the little stuff that frustrates me... Just handed a trip sheet and left to figure it all out on your own... yesterday I was F’ing around with another landing gear issue... they replaced the whole thing at the shop... while I waited... no, can’t give me another load... lol

It’s probably just me being frustrated too easily.

Which DC are you working out of for Publix?

Someone has to do it though. After all drivers gets their stuff from the same places everyone else does.

Oh I agree. And quite honestly, they are doing a service for the better good, I’m just saying for me, I’m not thinking for the majority, but myself. I’ll be the first one to say, I’m lazy AND spoiled. When I head out Tuesday, I’ll be well stocked and fed for a month, with all the food and groceries from Publix and Target. I know some truck driver brought my food and groceries from the DC to the store, (@MidWest_MacDaddy). I thank them for making my life a little easier. I’m just not sure I’m ready to deal with Publix shopping centers all day everyday. I’m also basing my decision on the fact that being OTR, social distancing is the space inside my truck, doing store deliveries, you are coming in contact with 10 times the amount of people on a daily basis. Then let’s talk about $$$. They’re paying $250 a day, though it seems good for some, it’s not for me, especially knowing what one goes through making those drops. Again, it’s all about $$$. My wife just asked me if they paid $300-350 a day, would I do it. At that point I would reconsider it.

Here’s a picture of my makeshift pantry with all my Coronavirus food and household cleaning supplies. This doesn’t even show the food she’s preparing for 3 weeks.

I am grateful being a driver makes my job essential. Even though all of my loads or at least most leave the country. A lot of people are out of work right now, including my brother.

I may be "essential" and "the backbone of the economy", but my day-to-day life has not changed significantly from what it was before all this started. I wash my hands more often now, and I open more doors with my butt, but I am otherwise doing the same things I've been doing for the past three and a half years.

It's one of the reasons I get so uncomfortable with all of this sudden trucker hero worship. Heroes do heroic things. Heroes do extraordinary things. I'm just doing the same things I've always done.

That’s like all these free meals people are giving out to drivers. I’m still working give it to those out of work.
