I’m pissed, and somewhat annoyed. Our fleet in the last 6 moths, has got in 200 new dry vans, 100 new reefers, and 100 new trucks. As I sit here at Groveport watching the comings and goings of our trucks, one issue keeps resonating with me. The amount of damage done to brand new equipment. I’ve seen a 20xx Volvo that overshot the pin and has crushed cab extenders and a crushed sleeper back, a 21xx Volvo with the passenger cab extender folded all the way to the sleeper and a 55xx reefer with as much damage as a 50xx reefer. This is all equipment that’s less then 6 months old. I’m thinking I might be overqualified to work here. View attachment 331920

RVA to Hillsboro Oregon. Load assignment says Thursday morning delivery. Right. I send in my load acceptance macro stating I CAN’T make delivery on time. No response, called, no answer, so I said F’it and leave. Around Raphine I finally get through and explain to my DM, whom I having serious thoughts that the closest he’s come to any place else in this country was when he first saw a map of the United States on the wall in elementary school. The loaded miles are 2890, and he’s trying to tell me I can get there in 2 days. I politely let him know that I know I’m good at my job, but not that good. So for the next 2 hours we’re going back and forth about swapping this out because low and behold, it’s a team load. Finally, I’m told not to go past Charleston WV. I stop at the GoMart and start my 10. I get parked, and then my phone rings, it’s the team that I’m swapping with. Here’s the most hysterical part of this whole fiasco, this team is just leaving RVA with an empty trailer to swap with me. They’re chasing me! So at 3pm I start my 10, 5 hours from RVA to here and they show up 9 hours later. Meanwhile, I get a deadhead move to Groveport. Maybe I’m not really in tune with trucking after all these years, but isn’t that borderline pisspoor planning? Minimally, they’re sending an empty reefer 500 miles total. Oh, again, I’m not a rocket scientist, but shouldn’t they have got that load assignment from the start? SMDH.

At 12:30 this morning, I didn’t want to get involved with that convo. When I called into dispatch this morning, they asked me that same question.

ANd it keeps on...cirrhosis of the liver. Geez. My mother is an alcoholic. 35 years sober. Guess the damage was done in the 20 years she was drinking.

Whelp, not the way I wanted to be spending my day. I was supposed to be playing with my granddaughter. Instead, I’m in the ER with my mother. Prayers, please. NOT covid19. We know that for sure, but when she calls me at 7 am, it’s never good. I’m just thankful that I can be here with her. And for morphine.

Rebelchick, prayers for you and your mom. When my dad passed over two years ago, he deteriorated so quickly, I accepted he had no way to make any turnaround. I came to peace with it quickly. Hope you can, too. God Bless your family.
