Does Abilene do a lot of loads that require multiple stops and if so do they pay extra for each stop? I've been reading a lot of this blog and it seems as if they do a lot of multi-stop loads vs full loads. does the driver do a lot of the unloading or does the consignee most of the time? If you could put a percentage on drop and hook full loads vs multi stop loads, what would that number be?

Abilene is 99.99% no touch freight if you're OTR, and the only reason I don't say 100% is because I'm sure if I said that, some smart-aleck would pop up and say "Oh, well there was this ONE time..."
I've been driving for Abilene for four years now, and I have never once loaded or unloaded a trailer.
Extra stops pay $25 per stop. Multi stop loads are not rare, but they're not common either. Most loads are single stop.
Most of our outbound loads are drop and hook. Backhauls are more varied, but we get a lot of drop and hook there as well.MidWest_MacDaddy, MACK E-6, Lonesome and 1 other person Thank this. -
How about multi-stop pickups? Does that ever happen?

I’ll chime in. We have a 5 door loading dock at the Richmond yard. It’s where they put our LTL loads together. I’m guessing we have about 10-15 LTL loads a week going out. Most of my outbound Richmond loads out of hometime is one of those. I have had as little as 3 stops across the country and as many as 7. I love those loads. I’ve left on Thursday starting dropping on Monday and finishing the following Friday. The average load is 3200 miles plus extra stop pay. My biggest mileage load was 4570 miles with 7 drops. The nice thing about those loads is the customers. It’s usually the same 5 or 6 shippers. The same ones the last 7.5 years I’ve been doing LTL. Granted Mack, it’s not what you are accustomed to, but we have it with a boatload of miles involved.
As far as multiple pickup loads, I’ve had 3 of them coming back to Richmond. Again, they were about 4 each coming across the country.Lonesome, MidWest_MacDaddy and MACK E-6 Thank this. -
I've done that twice in four years. It happens, but even less often than multi-stop deliveries.
I had a trip to Oregon last April where the backhaul was a multi-stop pickup and a multi-stop delivery. Load of grass seed, same company for both pick-up stops, they threw on a couple of extra boxes at the first stop and had me deliver 'em to the second pick-up. -
Currently at a volvo dealership in Huntington,WV broke down.
Got here yesterday, and the part won't be here till tommorrow.
Does anybody know how much breakdown is,and how you go about getting it.MidWest_MacDaddy and Crusader66 Thank this. -
Pay is same as layover, and you get it the same way. Put in a detention macro and write "Requesting breakdown pay" or something similar.MidWest_MacDaddy and Finfn1372 Thank this.

Pay is determined on a case by case basis. You need to transflow a cover sheet in addition to the breakdown macro.
Pay is generally about double what you get for layover. Your driver manager does not handle breakdown pay. It is processed by Rusty from what I was told.
We are broke down in ABQ. The new Volvo started blowing heat instead on cold air. The AC compressor works, and the low pressure line is cold, but the controls are calling for heat.
They are supposed to fix the steering problem (pulls to the right hard), plus the check engine light, and the sticking hood latch. This truck is falling apart, has 67k on the clock.Last edited: Sep 15, 2020

Life at the Hampton Inn ain't bad. Looks like our truck will not be ready today.
Pro tip. If you are getting your truck fixed, leave your bills in the document box of your loaded trailer. They might re-power your load multiple times while your truck is being repaired.
MACK E-6, MidWest_MacDaddy, dwells40 and 2 others Thank this. -
Not ..."I DEMAND BREAKDOWN PAY, AND I WANT IT NOW!" or similar?MidWest_MacDaddy Thanks this.
