Hey, CN... if you do read this thread, you were in my Pro Column for staying at Abilene.
-
I might be to the point and honest about certain things at the company but I do have a multitude of reasons why I stay, he’s one of those reasons.RebelChick and MidWest_MacDaddy Thank this.

@RebelChick answered so many of my stupid questions before I signed up at Abilene... (y’all think I ask stupid questions in these public threads, just imagine my private questions... lol) ... not just questions about the company but about driving in general... in addition to JB’s thread here, RC really helped me transition into this new career.
I’m fairly sure there are others in line ahead of me for any referral, but ya, I’d take a day of home time to help move a few boxes into or out of a moving van if/when that day comes.

Eliz City is only an hour SE of me, so might be. Since I haven’t been OTR in a minute, I’m going to take a minute to get reacquainted.MidWest_MacDaddy Thanks this.

I don’t know the guys name down in savannah, but I heard he’s pretty good too. Seems if they are away from the mothership, the better they are, and left alone to do their job properly.MidWest_MacDaddy and JohnBoy Thank this.

I read this morning where because of the driver shortage faced by mega carriers in 2021 and in order to attract drivers are going to be forced to increase cpm pay across the board. Some companies are now starting new drivers at .55 to .60 cpm so hopefully if the squeeze is put on carriers then in 2021 pay will increase for all drivers. If not, more and more drivers are going to opt for jobs closer to home. People just aren’t going to continue to sacrifice being home with family for peanuts. Hopefully this industry will wake up and take notice. We are worth much more and should be paid as such. We deserve more respect and I pray that our nation gets “healed “ from this stupid virus and things can resume some normalcy soon.

Good Lord! I had forgotten all the stuff needed to get back OTR. Getting it in the car was not fun. Getting it into and put away in the truck is going to be more fun. I hope my mattress is still in 1465 and no one has been assigned to it. I know the newer trucks are supposed have mattresses in them, but I’m kinda partial to the memory foam one I had. Plus, I’m missing my tire gauge and my Swiss Army knife. I suppose they were confiscated by someone if they’re not still in 1465.
MidWest_MacDaddy, Flatbedder 1966 and JohnBoy Thank this. -
Welcome back to the OTR life, it’s changed quite a bit. It’s gotten exponentially worse. Don’t believe the crap you hear about how much we’re appreciated, we aren’t. Get ready to be treated as if you have leprosy.
One last thing, something that gets me through my day, I do this for me and my family, my safe driving has nothing to do with the general public. My goal everyday is when I end my day I did it safely in order to get home and enjoy my life. Fortunately for Jack and Jill public, they too benefit when I get home safely.Last edited: Feb 7, 2021
