On my way to Phoenix and San Jose. But before I start that adventure, it was moving day today. This was my second Volvo in a row. I put a total of 420K on them, and I’m here to tell you, both trucks killed my back. 2 friends of mine that work at 2 other companies for as long as I’ve been at Abilene had the same issues. They both got out of them and went into a Cascadia. They both said the same thing, the seat in the Cascadia far out performs the Volvo seat. So, before I left for hometime 3 weeks ago, I took a new Cascadia for a road test. It seemed completely different, but then I was doubled over in pain so who knows. I called into the shop yesterday morning and spoke with the shop manager. In 15 minutes I was assigned a ‘22 Freightliner. This is the 6th new truck I’ve been assigned in the 8 years at Abilene. Right now I’m not sure what’s worse, moving 7 times or the 15 DM’s I’ve been through. I hope this is the answer, if not, then I’m done.

Now on to a little biotch session. A couple of years ago, they bought one of those platform deals that you park your old truck on one side then the new one on the other. Great idea, great concept, I used it last year when I moved into my last Volvo. If you come into our yard, with all these new trucks, you constantly see drivers using that platform. Except today. I went to get set up and guess what? Some illiterate driver parked his car on one side and the shop left a non running truck on the other side. Really? I must say, trucking, drivers, operations, hell even the janitors must all be on a different planet. So what did this idiot driver do? He got the two trucks set up in the back of the yard and humped everything from the old to the new. It’s all good, they wanted me to drop Tuesday night in Phoenix, which I had planned to before I turned into a United Van Lines mover. Now I’ll be sleeping on the yard and will leave tomorrow and drop Wednesday in Phoenix. I figure if they wanted it there Tuesday, they’ll sure as hell will be tickled when I get there Wednesday. 75F975EC-63D8-4241-9885-4D198E3C607A.jpeg

I’m surprised you guys don’t have personalized Indiana plates like so many other companies.

JB you being a Tall person. That Detroit Assurance in the middle of the windshield is something that probably you will dislike.

I have it in my truck and sometimes it blocks my view from cars coming into the highway...( that is ramps on an angle downwards). I have to bend over and over again into the steering wheel just to make sure there is no car there.
You would think that in this age of technology they could have come out with something smaller. That’s just my opinion :)

I know the enormous side mirrors on my 579 make it easy to miss a car coming if the mirror eclipses it. I had a few near misses that way.

How's the bunk area? Anything resembling a desk or table or other work surface?

One of the reasons I switched to a KW is that the KWs at least have a little swing-out desk thing, whereas our new Volvos have nothing. At least, not the Volvos allocated to the solo drivers.

Not really. You have to get the Cascadia with the Murphy Bed option to get the table. I had one and it was a great design. Far superior to the RV style bed/table in the Volvos. Those cheap four cushions were a back killer!!

    ExtremeUnction and dwells40 Thank this.

Ya, while I really miss my Volvo, that swing out table in the KW is very nice.

Ya, I wasn’t a big fan of the table/bed combo.

At first, I thought I’d sleep “upstairs” and leave the table up 24/7… but that didn’t work out. And when I had it as a bed, I’d never make it as a table.

I ended up with an extra upper bunk mattress in one of the trucks I moved into so I just left it on top of the four bench cushions and that worked out great.

Nothing that remotely resembles a table. I don’t carry a lot, but I will say this, the Volvo has more storage space. Right off the bat I’m missing my under bunk opening. This truck you need to lift the bed up to reach it. But I moved in last night and got myself all set up. It will work fine. One thing that’s annoying me is everything is on the opposite side from the Volvo. The cruise on the steering wheel is on the other side, the radio controls are switched, my clothes closet is opposite and so is the microwave. Kinda of annoying opening my microwave looking for a change of clothes.
