Very stressful last few days, and absolutely nothing to do with trucking, training or my job. We swapped trailers in Okemah Ok last Thursday at 12:30. We drove straight through to Phoenix and made our drop. We were there a total of 45 minutes. Kellan took care of the unload while I finished up the computer work. Just as we were pulling away from the dock our reload info came in. We had to deadhead to Sylmar Ca, nw of LA, drop our empty, then bobtail 75 miles back to Colton to get a produce load that delivered in London Ky at 6am this morning. The problem with all this was timing, we were gonna go through LA at 5pm and head back to Colton at 7pm. We did it and got back to Colton at 9pm. Our load was ready and we were out of there by 10pm. My clock was done about Banning so Kellan took over. He drove into LA, back to Colton then made it to the Loves in Kingman. We shut down there then I took over at 5am.
During the day on Friday I get a phone call from my wife that no driver should ever get out on the road, 3000 miles away from home. She has been going through her change the last few months and on Friday she had serious complications, to the extent she had to call paramedics to come to our home and take her to the hospital by ambulance. I was a wreck, I was on the phone with the paramedics giving them the info hey needed. Our son came to the house to go with his mom to the hospital, I was calling to get a flight home from ontario. The whole time my mom was with her and telling me it was going to be fine and to not fly home. I immediately called my DM Tim on his cell phone and told him what was going on, he asked me what I needed and I told him that I would finish this load but needed to get home asap after I was done. While he informed everyone inside at Richmond my concern this whole time was my wife. I was assured it was going to be alright, then I get a phone call from her telling me they admitted her. She spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday in the hospital and was discharged yesterday afternoon. She's now on the road to recovery and is under her doctors care. She was at his office today and we now have a clear understanding what happened and what needs to be done. I'm not going to go into detail, but suffice it to say, thank God she's going to be fine after a few weeks recovery.
Now it's time to tell you all how I feel about Abilene, they are a good bunch of folks to work for, but the way they stepped up, the concern they showed and the compassion given in this difficult last few days speaks nothing but volumes about why I'm proud to be associated with this group of people. I love my job, I think the world of these people for how they helped me and my wife. My feelings about my employment here goes far beyond miles or pay, they proved to me that this is a complete package for me. I'll be home tomorrow night and come back out next Monday. God bless everyone, and please, next time you talk to a loved one tell them you love them.
